Delicate, austere, and hauntingly minimalistic, John Strucel composes misanthropic noir melodies. The music fades between melancholy minor chords and sprawling masterpiece. Strucel threads together guitar, piano, strings, drums, and machines to create compositions that are both evocative and absorbing. Sounds uncoil at their edges beneath gloomy vocal work and intersections of noise and dissonance, creating a pervading sense of unease and dissillusionment. The result is a cinematical soundtrack; painstakingly wrought, ingeniously executed, it’s lonliness surfacing slowly amid each new musical shape.
