Endless Knot

About Me

The strange tale of a band called Endless Knot..... Endless Knot was formed in the year of 1996, after a chance meeting in a Coventry pub. A singer/guitarist and a didge player decided over a beer, to combine their skills and see what could be achieved. The music went on late into the night and the decision was made to branch out. Only days later, a keyboard bashing friend of the guitarist was summoned to a bed-sit in Spon End and beer and music began to flow. The night was becoming old, when a knock came at the door. Expecting a complaint about the strange sounds that were emanating from the small room, it was opened. To the surprise of the strange ensemble, it was a portly, bearded fellow from the room above, carrying an old, battered looking fiddle. ‘Any chance of joining in’ was the question that he asked, ‘Pull up a seat’ was the answer that followed. At the drop of a hat, a hybrid of reggae beats and folk tunes was filling the air. A whistle was pushed into the hand of the un-suspecting didge player along with an invite to join in with the newly written lyrics…. the music continued. Only days later, the 4 friends were on a mission in search of new victims to join their newly found group. A bass player was stealthily stolen from a local band and a drummer recruited to complete the line up. As the days and weeks went by, influences of Folk, Rock, reggae and punk were heard leaking into the nearby streets and slowly, a ragged collection of songs began to take shape. A chance of their first live performance came shortly after on 10th April 1997, when a charity event was set up at the General Wolfe pub in Coventry. Armed with 5 songs the band nervously took to the stage…. …This was the start of Endless Knots’ on-going journey through musicdom. 12 years, 3 drummers, 3 bass players, 2 singer/guitarists, and an electric guitarist down the line, the current line up is arguably the best yet. The three original members that remain, Baz (keyboards), Terry (fiddle) and Marc (whistle, didge, vocals, harmonica and percussion) are joined by Alex (guitar, vocals, didge and percussion) Glen (drums) and Johnny (bass). The now 1 and 1/2 hour long set, has burgeoned into a mix of reggae, ska, folk, rock and world music sounds, played to large crowds at festivals, pubs and clubs all over England. A hardy band of ‘knotters’, can be found at gigs up and down the land, dancing and drinking the night away, enjoying up tempo tunes and politically aware lyrics as well as (at chosen gigs) a traditional interlude, performed on fiddle and bodhran. The bands 3 track ‘Point the Finger’ e.p, recorded in 2005 and ‘Streets Ahead’, the new album recorded early in 2008, have received rave reviews. The 11 track album contains old favourites such as ‘Roots’, ‘Solstice Moon’ and ‘England’s Soil’, as well as new tracks including ‘In His Countries Name’ and American Dream. REVIEWS-'ENDLESS KNOT MAKE THEIR OWN, UNIQUE BLEND OF CELTIC/ROCK,REGGAE. I CAN'T SAY THAT I'M NORMALLY INTO THE KIND OF MUSIC THAT GETS HUMMED AROUND THE CAMP FIRE, WAITING FOR THE SUN TO COME UP, BUT, IF SUCH PEOPLE MAKE MUSIC LIKE ENDLESS KNOT, I'M NOT GOING TO ARGUE WITH THEIR PHILOSOPHY ON LIFE! PERFECT SONGS AND A PERFECT NIGHT' - Pauline Black, The Selecter'A LOT OF BANDS TRY FOR THIS SOUND, A LOT OF BANDS FAIL MISERABLY, THESE GUYS HAVE NAILED IT BIG TIME. MAY THEIR RELENTLESS KNOT NEVER END!' - Pete Chambers, Back Beat
