About Me

Sal Rojas ♠ Professional Photographer ♠ www.salrojas.com
At age 23, Sal Rojas co-founded the multimedia company Digital Aztlan Studios with business partner and fellow computer scientist Javier Oseguera. In 1997 they launched the ground breaking website BrownPride.com. The website was one of the first to put Latinos into the new frontier of cyberspace. The seminal Latino-based portal continues to stand firmly at ground zero of the evolving Urban Latino Culture where art, fashion, music, photography and film come together as one. 2007 marks the tenth anniversary of BrownPride.com, a testimony to the passion and perseverance of the original creators to continue the struggle against all odds in creating a forum for Latinos to express themselves online.
Following the success of their Internet websites Digital Aztlan Studios in 2001 released their first Latino Hip-Hop compilation titled “The Ollin Project” . It was hailed by fans and artists as one of the finest Latino compilations ever created. Working behind the scenes of the underground music industry, Sal Rojas produced, filmed, and photographed some of the biggest names in Latin Hip-Hop and was the creative force behind the documentary DVD “Pass The Mic!” In February of 2003 “Pass The Mic !” was distributed world-wide through Image Entertainment. In 2004 Sal Rojas served as an executive producer on a double CD compilation titled “The Never Ending Battle”. The compilation features some of the best independent artists from Los Angeles who came together to create a forty song compilation that was dedicated to the loving memory of slain rapper Cartoon from the Inglewood-based group O.T.W.
Now that his hard work and dedication has helped make Latin Hip-Hop the growing phenomenon that it is today, his photography skills have been gaining international attention. From having some of his lowriding photographs featured by The Smithsonian Institution Museum in Washington D.C. to having his portrait photography featured in multiple album covers and album artworks. Sal Rojas today continues to capture the essence of street life from the unique perceptive of a Chicano who actually grew up in the barrio. In 2005, Sal Rojas was invited by the city of Zaragoza, Spain to display his photography in a one man show titled “Fotografia Chicana” where thousands of Spaniards witness the power of one mans vision. I'm now reading "Open Veins of Latin America" (five centuries of the pillage of a continent) by Eduardo Galeano.

First published in 1971, Eduardo Galeano's analysis of the effects and causes of capitalist underdevelopment in Latin America presents a clear, passionate account of almost 500 years of Latin American history. Open Veins continues to speak to generations of people who want to understand capitalism and exploitation in Latin America, and in the rest of the world.

I finished reading Paulo Coelho's "THE ALCHEMIST." For more information on the Brazilian author visit his official website at www.paulocoelho.com.
