Welcome to the world of the highly innovative violinist Katy Rowe...
Katy's unique free flowing style, imaginative improvisational abilities and highly skilled playing techniques blend together subtly to purvey a stunningly delicate yet powerful sound. The pure beauty that soaks every note sinks deep into the soul and provides intensely captivating soundscapes. Her ability for seamlessly blending diverse emotive journeys and textures in sound has led to outstanding results when composing and playing mutli genre music and has seen her establish herself as a highly demanded session musician.Katy graduated with a first class honours degree and received the college string prize in 2002, then spent the summer in Australia studying with Elizabeth Holowell before returning to RWCMD, completing her postgraduate diploma in 2004.
Whilst studying, she led the various college orchestras, gave concerto performances with the college string ensemble and received masterclasses from eminent musicians such as Wen Chou Li, Mi-Kyung Lee, Philippe Graffin and Krystof Smietana. Katy was selected three years running, to take part in the prestigious string placement scheme with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and was awarded the Sir Geraint Evans Scholarship (2003), the Dayas Music Scholarship (2003) and the Eifion Evans Memorial Award (2004).
What I’m up to now!
I enjoy a busy timetable playing with the Mavron String Quartet. In addition to our own recital, education and outreach programmes, we also undertake work for Live Music Now! & The Cavatina Chamber Music Trust – both brilliant charities…really enjoy having the opportunities to share the gift of music with people who may not experience it ‘live’ in their day-to-day lives!
Outside of quartet, I freelance with several orchestras, record and arrange string parts for various artists and production companies, teach the violin and have fun experimenting with sounds at home! :-)
