"Like a man with no country" replies L.P when asked how it feels to be a latin rapper in the hip hop game. The dramatic change in his tone of voice makes it apparent the subject is a sensitive one. One that may take him back to his days growin up in farrockaway queens. The self proclaimed sixth borough, farrockaway was just as isolated from the rest of NYC as lp was growing up latin in his prodominatly black neighborhood. Which may explain his versatility and ability to adapt. That, coupled with his unwillingess to be defined as "hardcore" or "commercial" but rather a perfect combination of both, is quickly making him one of the most sought after hip hop artist in the game. A "new era" in hip hop music, as he describes it, will see him crowned king and by careers end remembered as one of the all time greats. While these may be words we have all heard before, the confidence in his eyes and passion in his voice invokes a strong curiosity in the man many are calling the savior of east coast hip hop. In 2007 On his way down that path he abruptly abandoned negotiations with hip hop power house rocafella records . Citing a loss of interest in "strengthing another mans empire". He quickly teamed up with his former manager Ryan Lugo to form Core Music inc. A label that he claims will quickly become a major component in ushering in his "new era of music", and not just hip hop. "Our plans go far beyond hip hop music. But this is where we are going to start simply because its our culture and we understand and relate to it so the music is going to come naturally" explains Lp. Now residing in the bronx, the birthplace of hip hop and home to the first latino rapper to ever reach platinum status, Lp said he feels no pressure though he does understand the importance of his success. Having already been on mini tours throught the east coast and in his native land of puerto rico Lp understands what's at stake. "I know that if I fail I will close the door that people like big pun and fat joe opened for me for other people. If one fails we all fail. So I can never allow that to happen." With all pieces seemingly in place and the ground work done the time has come for Lp and Core Music to come into the industry and live up to the hype. Something Lp says is going to be the easy part. "You have to understand, this is what we do. We love music and we love the business side of it as well. Failure is not an option. We're young, talented, and relentless. We can't lose!". Hype or real talk? We'll just have to wait and see.
