the band is currently a trio with same drum handled by luigi, a guitar manipulated by hicham replacing the saxophone you have listened on the first album. we are also glad to introduce to you our new bass engine théo jourdain.

ootiste began on a Parisian summer 2005 when thomas pailler- piano, charles caillaud- sax and luigi caria giglio- drums met for a few gigs melting rocky tempos and chaotic jazz quarrels. Location of their rehearsals is the incredibly vital urban setting of “marché aux puces” in Paris. These 3 musicians started to produce some strange chemistry and often succeeded to climb on scandalously hot improvisations. When bass player julien peuch joins them he brings more solidity and coherence to ootiste expression. The first formation sliced when Julien and Thomas left the project to engender a new group called "7ème souffle" based on french chanson and pop approach, thus satisfying their need for more accessible musical contexts. The band plays since then a fusion of styles, none of them accomplished. the fusion is accomplished however, the breath is popular, naturally addressed to all people demanding for eclectism. an out of the ordinary band that tries variety into an enticing peculiar accent. ootiste talks to itself because it likes good company.

Paris, été 2005. La rencontre entre thomas pailler (Piano), luigi caria giglio (Batterie) et charles caillaud (Sax) donna lieu à quelques improvisations mêlant tempo rock et dialogue jazzy effronté, avec l'arrivée de julien peuch (Basse) ootiste était né ! Ces quatre musiciens fondent leurs créations sur leur capacité à ériger d'improbables constructions improvisées. Puis, ils façonnent ces idées saillantes au rythme de leurs répétitions, tout en leur attribuant une forme propre, ainsi, leurs morceaux héritent d'une certaine alternance, où l'agencement créatif et l'intuition spontanée se succèdent. Le groupe profitera dés lors d'une fusion de styles, détournant parfois étrangement les genres. La formation originale change en suite quand Julien et Thomas entreprennent un nouveau projet "7ème souffle" suivant leur penchant pour une musique plus populaire et avec une forme chanson dominante par rapport à l'expression de ootiste qui restera exclusivement instrumentale. La diversité inspire ootiste et leurs creations vont à la recherche d'une empreinte unique et ont l'ambition d'une respiration universelle au meme temps.

Vous connaissez le Jazz massif ? J'avoue que je découvre le style par l'intermédiaire de Ootiste. La musique est volubile, esthétique, dynamique. On sent la maîtrise. Si le jazz est bien présent il semble bien que l'on entende d'autres couleurs. Les changements de rythme étonnent mais restent toujours agréables en nous entraînant quelques fois à danser.
