Announcement!
As loving and doting Father to Treacle the sad duty of announcing his untimely death under the wheels of a vehicle on Thursday 9th October 2008 falls to me.
Treacle was a real character. When he was very young he had an accident with a door and ended up with a large forepaw. He missed out, because of the bandages, on learning to fight from other cats and I taught him myself. He got to be very good at it and was undisputed champion of the terrace which was his territory. He continued to enjoy a bit of a spar from time to time and I still bear many scars. I was his hero and he adored to be with me. Wherever I was in the house he was with me, unless he was asleep of course. We were best pals. Whenever I was away on business he took over the role of protector to his mother and then was always there in the car-park to greet me when I came home.
Treacle learned my love of good food and was often to be found on top of the bin in the kitchen helping me to cook. He always had an opinion and always liked to have a taste of the end product too. He was particularly fond of mild curries, Moroccan chicken and kebabs. He also loved omelette and scrambled eggs. I shall never forget the sight of Treacle and our eldest son sat on the kitchen floor one Christmas finishing off a Goose carcass together like the luckiest pair of Dickensian urchins ever.
So, a martial artist and epicurean, unusual for a cat but there is more, Treacle also loved to play host to a good party giving his own brand of affection and discipline to all in good and equal measure. He loved his pet rabbit Mrs Wiggins (who was lost to us earlier this year) and they enjoyed taking turns chasing each other around the garden. He was savagely defensive should any other feline try to come in and play rough with his pet.
In short then, Treacle was a highly civilized and socialized boy both loving and intelligent. He looked at his Mother and I with big bright deep eyes in which there was no mistaking the love, adoration and respect…which we returned in equal measure. He was a great soul, a great heart and truly one of the best people I have ever had the privilege to know. Although he will live on in our hearts and memories, a great number of his friends and acquaintances are missing him now and will miss him for always.
So many words and yet none can adequately describe such a great character or the depth of our feeling and of our loss.
We will leave this site open as his memorial and a place where people who knew and loved him can leave their thoughts. Our grieving continues!
WE MISS YOU TREACLE! XXXXX
