Quite often do music fans find themselves searching for that individual who offers a certain type of sound. A type of sound that can be described as powerful, motivating or even inspirtational. In some instances, based on an listner's tastes, that artist and his associated music can come from no where, grabbing the attention of crowds all over the world.
In a time where the music industry is filledwith various styles and types of music, the genre of rap is proving to be the most powerful, and in some cases; the most socially conscious of them all. Rap music allows anyone with enough skill to voice their ideals, background and lifestyle. And with that, we introduce 'Only'. Raised in Edmondson Village on Baltimore's westside (as well as moving to various neighborhoods), Only's constant change in life style quickly began to aid in his artistry. The youngest of four, Only grew to understand that respect and an understanding of needs versus wants. While his older siblings made moves between college and the streets, he watched and admired the strength of his family. This forced him to walk proudly, with his head high and hold to a confidence that he could never fail. At age Twelve, he watched his mother, Stephanie die from kidney failure in his grandmothers home. The tragic event is what pushed him to take to a skill he inherited from his mother, writing. From his older siblings dealings, he was familiar with some of raps greats, both old school and new school. Influences including, N.W.A., Ice Cube, L.L. Cool J., Rakim, and the Notorious B.I.G. to name a few.
As time passed, his simple verses slowly began to change with the environments around him. He took an interest in other artists, such as Big Pun; aiding in his versitility. He than began to work to craft a style that would be a combination of all great rappers. His mannerisms and understanding of hard times would give him the ability to understand the needs of all types of peoples. As he vocalizes in his upcoming mixtape; "It aint a question of my skill/ Look, Cuz I get it done/ See what scares' em is the angle that I hit it from/ I rep the have-nots, working man and single moms/ Real niggas and niggas that get they hustle on". He describes his style in a way one would refer to a young Muhammed Ali; confident an energetic. These skills attributed to the recent passing of his father, Ronald, fuel him to constantly better himself through his music. There are many other painful moments in his life, but the ones noted are the most influencing. Exciting delivery, descriptive verses, and true to life stories are some of Only's powerful points. Only feels that he has not truly seen a notible moment in his career just yet, but has hit several stops on his road to success. Attribute local shows, such as Coppin State University's Homecoming performances (Going on just before Slim Thug and Trey Songz) and an attempt at the infamous 5 Seasons's Style Wars; various features on mixtapes over the years; and various sit downs and collaborations with the likes of Baltimore's own; Real 2 Real and Ray Victory, and it looks as if Only will only sharpen his skills.
Only is currently halfway through another mixtape attempt, titled; 'The Beginning: True Story'(2006), and hopes to make it a nationwide event. As he calls to those he has met on his way to this point in his career he hopes to involve much of his hometown in an effort to truly capture the summer and keep his listner's attention. His rapid fire, flow and demeanor will no doubt solidify that his attempt will not go unnoticed. Currently working on building his two independent record/entertainment ventures, Go-Hard or Go home Entertainment and Blaq Nyte Entertainment, his focus cannot be shifted or changed. It is usually hard to define an individual...but to define Only, he asks that you refer to his rough translation of Websters definition; "Alone in kind or class; due to superiorty and excellence. Go hard or Go home...all or nothing, everything or not at all."..
