Frisbie's founder, Mary Frisbie Wood, gets her middle name from her grandmother's family who owned the Frisbie Pie Company. When students at Yale began tossing the pie plates and exclaiming "Frisbie!" to warn any innocent bystanders of the oncoming disc, a new game was born.
