Skittles - We’d Drink

Biography

Skittles has recently featured in a BAFTA nominated 60 second short film, featuring a track produced and performed by himself ‘Since Grime’, off his internationally released debut album.
Born Liam Kelly in 1986, Skittles is now one of the leading lyricists in Manchester. Diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) at 11, Skittles’ condition was to cause him significent problems throughout his education. However by 2006 his involvement in music coupled with his positive and intelligent lyrics had earnt him the respect of his peers.
Skittles’ fast musical development and increasingly recognisable presense on the Manchester music scene, sees him known by many as somewhat of a veteran at only 21. However it was through close friends Virus Syndicate that MRK1 approached Skittles, to feature his track, ‘As if that’s Life’ on the mixtape ‘Contagious Vol 1’, mistakingly naming it ‘My Life’. This led to Skittles going on to host many of MRK1’s dubstep sets across Europe.
In 2007, with his debut album fast approaching completion, it was now predictable that the leader of the Manchester grime scene MRK1, would release Skittles’ comically entitled debut album ‘Two Pints of Brandy and a Packet of Skittles’ on Contagious, which was to be distributed internationally. With his debut video release on its way, the re-titled ‘We’d Drink’ (directed by BAFTA Nominee, Ed Lilly), Skittles’ album sales are set
to go from strength to strength.
Further to his musical talent, the Manchester based short film ‘Billy Wright’ that Skittles featured heavily in, was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award. Upon completing and releasing his album, Skittles has not stopped for a minute. After the footprint left by Skittles at the North West ‘I Love Live’ showcase in late 2007, he was invited to London for the ‘best of’ night in March 08, covered by MTV Base. Sharing a stage with the likes of Kano and Bashy, 1xtra DJs Ras Kwarme and Twin B hosted the gig where Skittles performed new tunes ‘Spliffy and Eclipse’ and ‘Lying Here’. Previous ‘I Love Live’ artists include Miss Dynamite and Skinnyman.
After years of spreading a positive message to youngsters and prison inmates alike, working with government funded agencys such as the Manchester Young Offending Team and the Education Authorities, Skittles has designed and is set to launch his own school based Music Video Production workshops in conjunction with video director Ed Lilly.

“An album not to be missed that will have you up and down and from left to right!” (‘Two Pints of Brandy and a Packet of Skittles’, Freschuts Recordstore, 2007)
“…the scene’s first real shot at pop success ... Skittles could rival the great Mike Skinner” (‘Two Pints of Brandy and a Packet of Skittles’, Boomkat 2007)
"...this is the english slim" (Green Lantern)
