THAT WAS THEN:
Born in 2005, Black Skull Ritual was a studio project that had somehow oozed out of a computer, escaped into the darkness and found a life of its own. With only the bass being played live, the tracks created were a personnal cathartic ritual to banish the suburban stupidity that blighted the life of its creator.Hibernating and mutating, a desperate bass heavy alien noise lied dormant for months and then exploded out of anger and hatred, the dark soul to the electronic beast.
Each grisly layer added in moments of inspiration and blackness, looping until they reach a point where they can no longer contain the maelstrom.
These early tracks were released as:
"The Suffering" demos in 2006 and three tracks,
"Aphotic", "Mono Death" and "Feedback In the Hall of Hell" were also later releases on the Stratagem Tapes label.Joined in 2007 by guitarist KRL, who co-wrote more guitar based music, initial pressings of the 'Crushed And Suffering' CD quickly sold out, and Black Skull Ritual were offered live, dates, but turned them down to go back to the studio for their latest release, 'Live For Nothing, Die For Something'.Graced with a more organic live sound and combining massive low end rumbling doom with blackened metal, the ritual begins again.
