Chris Barrick

About Me

Chris Barrick is a percussionist/drummer in the Cincinnati, OH region specializing in jazz vibraphone, classical percussion and drum set. A recent graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with a B.M. in Percussion Performance, he is now a graduate assistant pursuing a Master's Degree in Percussion at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He also teaches percussion part-time at Cincinnati Christian University.
Well versed in classical and contemporary styles, he has performed with the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, David Baker's Jazz Ensemble, Bob Becker, Emil Richards, James Bunte, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, CCM Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble, Woody Shaw III, Bubble Life, Peter Adams and the Nocturnal Collective, Poco Loco, Mambo Diablo, CCM Department of Dance as well as studies with Rusty Burge, Anthony Cirone, Steve Houghton, Gerry Carlyss, Craig Hetrick, Chuck Redd and Art Gore, arranging studies with Brent Wallrab, and participation in masterclasses from Lyle Mays, Tim Adams, John Tafoya, Fernando Meza, Anne-Julie Caron, and Tony Miceli. He was recently awarded the Terry Gibbs Vibraphone Scholarship through the Percussive Arts Society.
He is available for musical engagements.

Influences: where to start... all of my teachers, people i have played with, most "well known" jazz artists, many "not so well known" jazz artists, 90's radio rock music spanning starting at around Nirvana and Pearl Jam and cutting off right before Creed, "jam" bands, electronic music, european classical music, indian classical music, afro-cuban music, brazilian music, balinese gamelan, jamaican music, James Brown, Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, John Hollenbeck, John Cage, Steve Reich, Toru Takemitsu, Gustav Mahler, J.S.
