Digital Breaks Foundation / DBF

About Me

Matt Tanner and Ben Kay were brought together when Matt booked Ben (AKA Virtua) to perform his DMC scratch set at the New Years Eve party he was co-promoting at Londons Fluid Bar in 2002/3.Ben's quality scratching to an eclectic mix of beats and breaks was an excellent alternative to what was fundamentally a house night. Although their roots lay in different ends of the dance music spectrum (Matt: house and progressive / Ben: drum 'n' bass), their love of the nu-skool breaks sound became the driving force behind the birth of Digital Breaks Foundation. After setting to work in the Studio early in 2003, they began bringing the house, progressive and drum 'n' bass influences they knew so well into their breaks productions. After a number of white label releases, they finally arrived with their first full release at their current home Boombox Records. The Digital Breaks style fuses heavy basslines with fast filter sweeps to create groovy, rolling basslines with edgy acidic synths. This resulted in their debut single One Inch Punch / Ultimate Indecision gaining immediate support from Annie Nightingale, Anthony Pappa, Nitro and Ricky Stone among others. After working on various projects including a breaks remix of Slackers 1996 house classic Scared, and a further remix of fellow label co-horts Sifter and Adan's new track Heyflicker, the DBF boys are now about to drop with their new single Way Back which is set to put them firmly on the breaks map.Further Digital Breaks Foundation releases are pending and set to ensure the Digital Breaks sound is here to stay.DiscographyOne Inch Punch / Ultimate Indecision [Boombox Records] Way Back + Sifter and Adan Remix [Boombox Records] Come Closer + BOY 8 BIT Remix [Boombox Records]Digitize The Musik / Imagination [Chemistry Club Recordings] Chemistry Club Recordings - New Digital Breaks Foundation Release CHEM002 Override (Original Mix) + Dj Cosmonauts Formation & Techno remixes [Chemistry Club Recordings]RemixesSifter and Adan - Heyflicker[Boombox Records] The Shafunkers - Play Around [Deeper Substance Records] DJ Cosmonaut - Sweet Music [Flash Records]Current Single Override [Chemistry Club Recordings]IDJ MAGAZINE REVIEW ! Larry Nelson The Digital Breaks Foundation launch a fresh new imprint and they do it with a couple of tracks that'll sit well with breakers and house fans alike. "Digitize the Musik" offers a distinct electro flavour as it twists and turns its way onto the floor. There's a definite old skool vibe to this, with its growling acid line and big pads. Imagination follows a similar theme, but with a slightly stripped down feel. Definately worth checking out. 4/5. Come Closer Magazine Reviews:One Week To Live (In this weeks issue, so grab it if you can!) With the breaks scene seeing a bit of a decline recently, and a lot of the producers jumping on the dubstep bandwagon, it's nice to see big tunes like this coming through. Digital Breaks Foundation has smacked it with "Come Closer", a rolling breaks banger that gathers pace nicely featuring some heavy percussion and a deep bassline. The Boy 8-Bit remix is pretty massive too, hitting listeners and ravers a lot harder than the original with a distorted bassline that will have the dancefloor and the kids going crazy. This is stomping breaks of the highest calibre. Heavyweight stuff, guaranteed to get the rave hyper and shake the breaks to their foundation. 6/7IDJ Mag-Nov '06- As anyone who caught their last smash "Way Back" will attest the Digital Breaks Foundation are the Kings of slick, lucid breakbeat that oozes atmosphere. And "Come Closer" is no exception - smooth rolling and bound to find favour with both the breaks and progressive house floors. Remix wise, IDJ's fave electro freak Boy 8-bit delivers one of his finest moments yet. To find out more, check out the review on the house page! Larry Nelson 4/5Mixmag-Dec '06 - Prog Rider from London duo Matt Tanner and Ben Kay combine their house and d'n'b production to create their Digital Breaks sound. With no real melody, 4am floors will dance in a trance to the sturdy rotating beats and funky, proggy riffs. Jane Hassanali 3/5I get myspace layouts at UltimateMySpace.com. Get this layout
