Allen V. Carter is a recent Magna Cum Laude graduate of Temple University's Esther Boyer College of Music and Dance , where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree concentrating on Tuba Performance. Before choosing to return to school to pursue this degree, Allen performed as a professional commercial musician for 12 years throughout the United States--from California to Florida to Virgina--where he has performed well over 10,000 shows for various theme parks across the country. Allen has also toured nationally with A Christmas Carol: The Musical on three different occasions, with two different companies, and on two different instruments (tuba and euphonium). Allen is no stranger to studio productions, having recorded a Showtime movie ( Shame, Shame, Shame ), a guest musician with the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band, and the recording of I am an American , recorded by the Temple University Symphony Orchestra for Philadelphia International Records. As an electric bass player, Allen has played as a cover musician in his former group Cover Deez with Myspace Music musicians Michael Allen and Tyler Cain .
As a classical musician, Allen has performed with the Haddonfield Symphony Brass Quintet, the Curtis Institute Symphony, Haverford College Symphony, Lower Merion Symphony (on bass trombone), the Jubilate Deo Chorale and Orchestra, and has performed many extra services with Temple University's New School Institute Brass Quintet, of which he was a four-year member.
Allen is also a part-time composer and arranger, having composed and arranged music for Temple University's Diamond Marching Band that has been performed throughout the Northeast. His marching show arrangements of songs by The Beatles was arranged to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Beatles first performance in Philadelphia, PA, and was debuted at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. His arrangements have also been performed at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Additionally, Allen has composed choral music for his fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia , that has been performed at various chapter and province events, and composed a set of fanfares entitled Gymfares (or Fanfares for the Common Band) , written for the 2003 NCAA National Men's Gymnastics Championships.
Currently, Allen is in graduate studies at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, as a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant in Wind Band Conducting and Tuba Performance. From there, Allen hopes to pursue his dream of teaching at the university level as a band director and/or tuba professor.
Allen is a 1989 McDonald's All-American High School Band member, a 1990 John Philip Sousa award and United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis award winner, a 1998 finalist in the La Jolla Symphony Young Artist Competition, a 2005 inductee into Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities, a 2006 recipient of the Boyer College of Music and Dance Howard Chivian Memorial Prize , a 2007 Truman State University Gold Medal Competition winner, and an inductee into Truman's Pi Kappa Lambda chapter, the national honorary fraternity for music.
Allen is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and a pending member of ASCAP.
