About Me

-- QRIO IS NO MORE --
qrio quits, long live qrio!
After twelve years qrio decided to end their musical journey.
qrio would like to thank everyone who was involved in the past twelve years, was it as public, fan, driver, booker, listener, critic, musician and human being.
Rob, Manfred, Maarten, Michiel
Old bio:
After an existence of a millenium, qrio [kü~ree~yo] are still rockin' on. It was ten years ago when original bandmembers Harald, Rob and Michiel decided to join forces to become the noise-jazz-experimental rocktrio they named qrio. This culminated in 2001 in their first indepentently released record, 'Yépâlalà'. A one hour rollercoaster ride containing 13 nerve-wecking, earsplitting noisy rocksongs, overflowing with raw energy. And this was just the prelude for their second album 'Ashtray Sounds', indepedently released in 2003. In the two years between 'Yépâlalà' and 'Ashtray Sounds' the boys matured and grew musically. Also, they found a new friend when Maarten joined the band to broaden their sound. First arriving in the pre-recording stages of 'Ahtray Sounds' he quickly adapted to the band and their gruesome ways and conquered his own place in their music. The release of 'Ashtray Sounds' marked the start of over two years of constant touring through Holland and Belgium, including the festivals Parkpop, and State-X and playing venues like Paradiso (Amsterdam), Waterfront (Rotterdam), Willem2 (Den Bosch) and Vera (Groningen) as well as joining in the first Dommelsch Locals Only Tour.qrio qrew to be an energetic live band, who furiously grasped the audience into their atmosphere. Their music, with their vivid dynamics, carried by a solid rhythm-section, unconventional mingled guitar-parts and heartfelt singing, was only meant to be performed live, and that is where it shines. Despite their constant touring, qrio also released their third album, a three song EP on the internet in 2004 with which they again changed their musical course into a much broader spectrum of indie music. On a high, lightning struck when in 2006 founding member Harald moved to Mongolia leaving the drums unattended. But qrio drove on, and found a new love-interest in Manfred. With him providing the beat, they steer their music into the experimental. Synth’s and samples are introduced in qrio’s music. New songs have appeared, a new album is only a block away and qrio are back, to play the world.
qrio are:
-Rob van Beemen: the fathering bassplaying voice of qrio.
-Michiel Siebelink: the obsessed gearmingler and guitarsqueezer.
-Maarten Hornstra: the multitalented musical shephard.
-Manfred Gstrein: the rock in ‘Rock’.
