I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorI am a lover of life and believe it's intimacy with death that has given me the gift of a truly lived sense of 'seize the day'. I shudder at the delicious intensity of life's emotions - good, bad, but always passionate. I have a small but significant 'family' - some are related, some from my own womb, some are friends, some are furry creatures... but they all connect me to this earth. I could not live without - garlic bread, friends, glimpses of the sea, my cats, and above all music. I already have tickets for Latitude and Reading 2009 and am always interested to link up with ageing indies like myself. I intend to grow old disgracefully and am already doing a good job of it!
I'm an author of a well-received textbook back in '93, and my first poetry collection ' THIS SEVEN YEAR OLD WALKS INTO A BAR' will be published in 2009.
Meanwhile I have been published in issue 5 of Citizen32 UK poetry magazine click here to see how to buy a copy . You can also read, in Empowerment4women, my poem 'Haircut' and in La Luciole (January edition) my poems 'All right Youssif, said Spiderman' and 'Swear Like Tony Soprano' ,and same magazine (March edition) 'Tea Leaves' and 'Sweat it Out' . 'All Right Youssif' has also been published in the Spring 2009 US magazine , 'Socialist Women' . Whilst you're at it, check out The Guild of Outsider Writers for 3 of my poems .
My work gives me purpose and belief,as well as my zest for life, but there is life beyond work - whether its being drowned in music at a good gig, soaking up atmosphere and culture on the south bank of the river Thames in London, where I live, or watching the little terns splicing a pink-blue sunset sea on a summer's evening down at Rye harbour on the Sussex coast.

Sometimes instead of writing images, I paint them.

Reading festival was so good last year - so many different genres. Below is a selection of the bands I enjoyed

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

First and foremost other poets and writers. I'm keen to link up with writers who would enjoy swapping blogs, whether poetry or prose. But also, any interesting souls who love this life and want to live it, not be a visitor. People whose idea of bliss is to lose the tv remote, or the tv itself - and listen to music or read a good book. Lovers of fine music to educate me into their diverse tastes - there can never be enough new music for me to dip my toes into. Passionate thinkers who like to go deep but can also skim the surface with laughter. Travellers who can make me envious with their far flung tales. And local people around my age who are into indie music to go to gigs with, and who, following on in the tradition of the late great John Peel, know you can like any music at any age. If you are a band though, please don't waste your and my time with a friends request. Musically, I like to choose my own friends.

By the way , the man below, Eugene Hutz, was someone I most definitely wanted to meet. In my mind when that day came, I would dazzle him with intelligent questions about life, music, the universe and the oppression of the gypsy race. Sadly, when I did meet him, at the ICA in Jan 07, I instantly dissolved into a teenager capable only of asking him to pose for a photo with me because it was my birthday... you can see my happy, stupid, fawning face in myPics!!
