My style is best described as crisp and sultry, clean and funky. Concentrating on lush colors and flowing curvilinear forms, my paintings stimulate provocative moods.
Water is essential for the survival of all known forms of life. It moves continually through a cycle of evaporation or transpiration, precipitation, and runoff, usually reaching the sea. My wave-like shapes flow like water, taking your eye on a seamless journey, proceeding smoothly, effortlessly and continuously about the canvas.
A common theme in my figurative work is seduction. Influenced by Cindy Sherman, my paintings of women deal with the relationship between fantasy and the world of gender and sexual stereotypes. My portraits of fictional women often hold a look of wonder, sometimes exhibiting an air of excitement, surprise, or even terror.
Through the use of color and composition, I create visual stimulation. I use complementary colors to create maximum contrast and stability. My materials of choice are acrylic paint, cut paper, gold leaf, crayon and spray paint.
In 2005, I received my BA in Art Studio from the University of South Carolina. After graduation, I spent two years creating art in Seattle. Currently, I am living and painting in Santa Cruz, CA.
