Everyone's story starts somewhere. For Robert Wrath, music has been a key element in his life since he was a child. Growing up he was influenced by the west coast hip hop movement in the mid 90s. Listening to legendary albums such as Dr Dre's "The Chronic" and 2Pac's "All Eyez on Me," Robert knew that music production was something he wanted to do. In 2001 Robert began going to teen dance clubs such as Zero Gravity, Industry, and Galaxy, where he was exposed to electronic music. Taking down song titles at the club and listening to Energy 92.7 & 5, Robert started making a series of dance compilations entitled "Strictly Red," which consisted of the hottest Euro and Progressive songs of the time.
In the summer of 2002, Robert was at Zero Gravity, about to turn 18 years old when he saw DJ Jonny Quest play a song while he rocked out. This is when he decided he wanted to be a DJ. However this was put on hold for nearly 3 years. In the beginning of 2005 Robert developed an interest in House music. Listening to mix cds such as Bad Boy Bill's Behind The Decks and DJ Inphinity's Downtown series this was the boost Robert needed to finally begin deejaying. In the spring of 2005, he purchased his first pair of Technics 1200 MKIIS and began to learn the ways of deejaying. He spent the rest of the year learning how to beatmatch, taking advice from DJs such as Chris B and Pat Osiris.
In early 2006, a DJ competition was announced at The Change of Pace in Macomb, Illinois. This is where Robert met DJ Vamp for the first time. After that night he began spending his Saturday afternoons with DJ Vamp spinning at the empty club and just learning as much as he could. By the end of 2006 Robert began spinning at small venues such as NV Ultra Lounge in Bloomington, Sphinx Cafe in Niles, Martini Ranch, and Cabaret in Chicago.
In the spring of 2007 Robert started a biweekly residency at Shadow Bar in Wood Dale alongside Dave the Hair Guy and Ian Morrison as well as another residency at Litsa Lounge in Homer Glen alongside Danny Level. Taking his skills to another level he learned how to spin hip hop and top 40 to add more to his arsenal. Right now Robert is starting a new beginning and looking to take his carreer as far as it will go. He has recently retired the name Spikes and now goes under the name Robert Wrath. He is currently spinning every Wednesday and Saturday at The Ritz in Macomb, Illinois as well as many guest spots that span from Central Illinois to the city of Chicago.
