All we can offer is that it involved lots of beer, cigarettes, and rock. Since that time, Cootie Platoon has been written up in all the local and not-so local rags, and has been played on too many college radio stations to list. You can find our work on the following compilations: Northwest Kicked In The Nuts ( Last Chance Records) and Monkey Business III ( Groovie Ghoulies, Green Door Records).Melodie Beirwagen - A Portland native, she began playing in bands right after high school, beginning as the keyboard player for punk freaks Velveteen Amoeba. After that madness came to an end, she and other Amoebas carried on as The Plague ( Melodie on bass ), The Devastatements ( Melodie on drums ), and The Die Jobs ( again on drums ). Around the turn of the century, Melodie started an all-girl band called The Tourettes, this time playing guitar. Meeting up with Rico spawned Cootie Platoon in 2001.Rico De Guyo - Veteran of the San Francisco Bay Area scene. Rico rocked with The Spit Muffins ( San Jose, CA ), San Francisco's White Trash Debutantes, and Candyass ( with East Bay Ray of The Dead Kennedys ). After being asked to leave San Francisco, Rico moved to Portland, OR and formed Reverse Cowgirl. That lasted almost 2 years, until he met Melodie in 2001, and Cootie Platoon was born.Kathryn - Born in the wilds of the West. Raised by coyotes in the cliff canyons of New Mexico, before migrating north to invade the native habitat of Oregon. Drums to keep evil spirits at bay, though, sometimes it seems to do the opposite. Attempts to play fiddle and guitar for less altruistic reasons. Now working on writing trashy, dime store novellas based on her early life in the desert.
