Smartek

Smartek's real name is Stefan. He's born in 1982 in the German-Dutch border area near Kleve. First musical talents he showed in childhood, while he began to play drums. Early inspiration in music he got from bands like Nirvana, Metallica and Biohazard. In middle adolescence he switched to electronic music. He was fascinated in technobeats created by Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin. Driven by this fascination for electronic music Stefan bought turntables to check out his creativity on this "instrument". The first times he played for an audience was in the German-Dutch border area in little locations. Since 2003 he spinned dj sets in regular clubs (eg. Tunnel Club, Austria; Fusion Club, Germany; Butan, Germany) and events (Ruhr in Love). In 2004 Stefan finished his first education, something like a therapeutical pedagogy. In september 2005 he began to study psychology at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
