Maybe Mental

About Me

Maybe Mental was first formed in 1982 by David Oliphant and continued activity until 1987 with many musicians coming and going. The original line up was with Doug Clark (aka Mighty Sphinter) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls). One cassette only release was made - Over Dark Harbors - . We played a handful of live shows in Phoenix and Tucson Arizona with this line up. While Alan was always a welcome member over the entire MM history various other people took main voice duties including 2 x-wives (Donna Annadillo and Su Ling Heydrich) and Ron Rexless. My Interest was always in a wide variety of sound/music, not just any one or narrow range of sound expression. While were were generally tossed into the then 'industrial' style we never really did fit in very well... This was perhaps our strength and weakness for any given 10 mins we play noise, pop, ambient, world, acoustic (both heavily mangled and untreated) in part and all at once. Over the years the industrial music of this time became less interesting to us and eventually sought to distance ourselves until coming to a complete stop by late 1987Several years later I started the group Life Garden along with George Dillon and Su Ling Heydrich.
