[Literature] is to stir you; to give you new sensations. It is to make you feel your life strongly,

About Me

I'm currently at the University of South Carolina, working towards my PhD degree in English Literature. I've finished my course work requirements, I've passed my comprehensive exams (whew), so if I could just get that little project called a dissertation written . . .Basically my professional life revolves around reading, writing, and teaching. My dream job -- I get paid to read, write about, and talk about books like Wuthering Heights and Harry Potter!I have a husband of five years (Scott), two miniature dachshunds (Emma and Mr. Knightley), and a baby girl from Kazakhstan who we adopted into our family this summer!

My Interests

Reading. Travelling. Reading. Finding ways to procrastinate, like joining My Space. Reading.

I'd like to meet:

J.K. Rowling and the writers of Lost -- I want to make sure that everything ends satisfactorily. Harry Potter can't die! Kate belongs with Jack, not Sawyer!

Music:

I like music that tells a story. So I'm a fan of musicals and opera. Ever heard of "Wuthering Heights" the musical? I'm probably the only person in the world who owns the cd. I also listen to audiobooks, so that kind of prevents me from listening to the radio. :(

Movies:

Star Wars (the ORIGINALS -- I hate the prequels), Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, Jane Eyre (the 2006 BBC version), Wuthering Heights (1992 version), Moulin Rougue, Lord of the Rings, About a Boy, Love Actually, Bridget Jone's Diary, Mansfield Park, Pride and Prejudice, Walk the Line, The Count of Monte Cristo (I think Jim Caviezel looks like Scott -- why I couldn't watch the Passion of the Christ) . . .

Television:

The Office. Lost. Reality tv (I can get sucked into any of it, but I'm especially fond of Amazing Race, Survivor, and The Apprentice).

Books:

Oh, there's not enough space, so I'll just list a couple . . . the Harry Potter series (J.K. is a genius) and ANY book by the Brontes (Wuthering Heights is my favorite of all time, although I'm also a fan of CB's Shirley). Books that have made me cry: George Eliot's Middlemarch, CB's Vilette, Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude (I still can't get "Gordon is muddy ashes" out of my head), and HP and the Half Blood Prince (not the part you think -- see the end of Chapter 23 -- when Harry finally understands).

Heroes:

My husband. And my daughter's birthmother.
