“Is there really rap coming from Wyoming? She’s making her move in the music industry. At just the age of sixteen Hazy is one of the fastest up and coming female rap artists. She’s only been in the game for a year but, has a steady fan base and they fans keep coming.” Yes, you’ve read it right. I’m from Wyoming, I’m just sixteen years old, I’m white and I’m making a place for myself in the rap scene. I started writing music at the age of eleven and recorded my first song on May 30 of 2006. I started along side my brother Navarre. When we started it was with a twenty dollar microphone and an old cash register for our studio. We used Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to produce our first mix tape. The “Cut My Wrist” mix tape was a major land mark for me. It was far from a top seller but it got us a few fans. Those few fans made me realize that I could make it happen. Then my hate fans, if it wasn’t for my hate fans I really don’t think I would be as successful as I am. They inspired me to get in the booth and do what I do. Even after all of the threats and insults I’ve managed to keep it coming. At the beginning people had no faith and rap coming from Wyoming sounded absurd. After months of practice I started popping out hits. The fans started coming to support what I was trying to do. I can honestly say that I’m the most requested rap artist in Wyoming. You might think that title might not have been hard to obtain, but the work I had to put in was grueling. Between school, work, writing music, producing my music, and promoting myself life got a little crazy. Finding time to sleep was almost out of the question. People were always asking me, “How can you say you’re a rapper? You’re not a gangster. You’re not a thug?” Your right I’m not. I’m none of those. I’ve lived my life and I’m proud of what I’ve done. I’m going to graduate high school. However, I’ve lived where the heater doesn’t work. I’ve lived in a place where you wear a coat to sleep and pray that one day things might change. I’ve stolen food so I could eat. My mom was working two jobs and we were still trying to get by. I started hustling and I decided I would never live like that again. Now I’m chasing a dream. In a year I’ve recorded over sixty songs and released four mix tapes. An accomplishment from a dream they said I would never achieve. I turned my back on society the day they turned their back on me. Now I’m one of the most successful people in Wyoming. Never give up on a dream, no matter what odds are against you. Keep your head up and keep doing your thing.
