About Me

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."Based in NYC, Wilde formed during the summer of 2004. Named after the Irish born satirist Oscar Wilde, Wilde strives do something different in a music scene cluttered with Garage Rock impersonators and medicore commercial pop non-sense. Wilde's favorite bands are The Cure, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumkins, The Smiths, Police and Miles Davis. With those artists as inspirations, it is of little wonder why Wilde has done so much in such a short time span.Wilde was formed by vocalist/guitarist Brian, after he graduated from college in May. After many years of writing songs and working on his playing, he decided to do the right thing and start a band. It took a while to find the right people, but by September the core components of the band had been found. Brian met Wilde's bassist Jansen aka " da killah" on sweltering day on the Lower East side of Manhattan. They quickly hit it off and began their search for a permanent drummer. After just one open audition, Brian and Jansen had found Wilde's drummer, the rythmically inclined Danny. Danny, who was actually a classmate and neighborhood friend of Jansen's, began playing drums at the age of 12 because, " everyone else played guitar." After 2 shows as a trio, Wilde decided that it needed another instrumental component. They were open to another guitarist, but were determined to try something different. Into the picture came Cellist Mike, a julliard graduate student and Kansas City native. Mike added an interesting twist to what was already a different sound. After a practice with Mike, Wilde shifted to its' present form; a 4 piece.In the coming months Wilde is looking forward to playing more shows in NYC and in the surrounding area. Currently, Wilde is writing new songs and looking to record an EP.
