About Me
Born and raised in Long Beach, California, 21-year old Twilight AKA "Tha Futcha" was destined to bless the microphone. He began writing award-winning poetry in elementary school despite all of the challenges he faced at home. At the young age of 6, the Department of Social Services removed him from the place he called home, and introduced him to the life of a foster child. Before age 9, Twilight had six different sets of people he could call foster parents. Thanks to his grandmother, he was introduced to a real home and a church home. He was able to combine his gift of poetry with his life experience. His first rap was in church at the age of 9. Since then, you may have seen him ripping the mic on various appearances on Black Entertainment Television (BET).
Twilight appeared on 106 and Park's Freestyle Friday without even auditioning to be on the show. He attempted to audition during the 1000 MC battle in New York, New York in front of Russell Simmons. The audition was cancelled due to an outbreak of gunfire. Determined to be heard, Twilight went straight to BET Studios and was told that all the freestyle spots were filled for the season. Twilight still did not give up. He sat in the audience for the slight chance that he would be noticed. It must have been written because before the show started, the mic was handed to him and the audience could not get enough. He was instantly offered to compete on Freestyle Friday despite being told that the spots were taken for the whole season. Twilight appeared on Freestyle Friday on January 16, 2004. He was reigning champion for four weeks in a row. He would have been champ for the entire seven weeks the freestyle battle lasted, however, life through another obstacle in his path. While in Harlem, the New York Police picked him up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Twilight happened to be a passenger in a car with a gun and was forced to see a judge to be released. Of course, the release did not happen until after the recording of the show and he was forced to forfeit the competition.
Twilight then went on to compete in BET's Spring Bling freestyle battle in March 2005. Once again, his competition was ripped to shreds and he won after competing in two rounds. You may have also seen him on BET's "The Lobby" in June 2004. You can check out Twilight's freestyle, pictures, and interviews on www.BET.com. When not making television appearances, Twilight is busy recording his demo in studios across the nation. Currently, he is recording at CSL in Louisville, KY. A studio often frequented by Atlantic Records recording artist Twista.
When not out of town, he is recording in his home town of Long Beach, California. He developed the smash single "Tha Futcha" which has received several spins on the Los Angeles radio stations 100.3 The Beat and Power 106. He graces tracks produced by Black Diamond and Justice League (112 and Young Jeezy). In addition, Twilight was featured in the Source May 2006 issue for Unsigned Hype. You may catch Twilight doing what he loves the most, rapping, in venues nationwide. You will hear the stress of a street poet rapping about what he is destined to be.
