FOR THOSE WHO NEED TO KNOW, I'M NOW THE POINT OF CONTACT FOR THE "STRANGEFRUIT FUNDRAISER" TO BE HELD AT ANTONES IN THE WONDERFUL CITY OF AUSTIN, TX...
THANK YOU SUSAN!
I am a well-heeled Gentleman who, to paraphrase F. Scott Fitzgerald, "remembers that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that I've had."
I have been graced with an extravagant formal and informal education. I have traveled the world over since I was a child of seven, so I understand and accept differences in people. I have a deep abiding faith, though I'm not overly religious, as religion has gotten men in trouble throughout history.
I live in Austin, the GREATEST City in the WORLD, and I've been to Paris, London, and Florence, and they pale by comparison when taken as a whole.
I’ve discovered the answer to Larry’s quest in Maugham’s book, “The Razor’s Edgeâ€. To me the meaning of Life is that THINGS ARE THINGS, AND PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE, AND PEOPLE ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN THINGS. THINGS CAN BE REPLACED, PEOPLE CANNOT.
To that end, I’m a natural protector and nurturer, and it has gotten me in trouble on more than one occasion. Thinking that I can save the damsel in distress, usually to discover that they don’t want to be rescued, or once rescued, they become overly dependent on me. I just need to get my picker right when it comes to women. But, I’m learning.
For some, I’m old...ancient, but my age has provided me a sense of wisdom, and more importantly, patience. I don’t get angry or upset at a lot of things, because I’ve always considered it a wasted emotion. That is not to say that I don’t get angry, but like Bruce Bannerman said, “You would not like me upsetâ€.
I'm intelligent, compassionate, sensitive, passionate, and romantic. I'm in the top two percent on Wexler, for those of you who are really interested in those things.
Although I value intelligence, I believe that compassion for others is by far more important than intelligence. I have an innate sense of being able to get along with almost anyone. I do drive people nuts with the obscure bits of trivia that I know, but I'm a content soul, quite easy-going, yet diverse in my outlook. I’m as comfortable talking to ditch-diggers as I am discussing foreign affairs with ambassadors.
My masculinity is sometimes questioned by inconsequential people, because I don’t spend endless hours watching sports on TV. When a game of importance is on, and time permits, then I’ll sit and watch it. I am passionate about family life, protecting children and animals, and I’m intolerably intolerant. I'm as playful as a puppy and I’m a very serious puddle stomper. With me, the glass is always full, never half of anything. What you think is empty space I fill with my imagination.
I like to cook, and more than a hamburger or steak on the grill. I like to set a fine table and entertain friends and family, or just have a quiet dinner. I enjoy different wines for each course: Moet et Chandon champagne with an appetizer, white wine with seafood, red wine with beef, Moscado with Dessert, and Cognac with coffee. I love mimosas on Sunday morning when I cook a killer fritatta. I also ground my own beans for coffee and I use real cream.
I have season tickets to the Opera, and Broadway Series. I thoroughly attending the symphony and the theater and I have been known to sit through a ballet or two. I love ice hockey, going to museums, a quiet dinner with fine wine, the morning cup of coffee, a thoughtful conversation, a glance, a smile, a child's giggle... But I REALLY LOVE the movies.
I love going dancing, be it C&W, Salsa, or even Argentine Tango. I like listening to jazz, finding antiques at the flea market, and doing other eclectic things. I like to go camping on the lake in the summer and sleep under the stars. I love old movies at the Paramount Theater.
I do NOT enjoy hunting, fishing (except deep-sea fishing), and NASCAR, I don’t own a Harley, and the only time I get close to a horse is when I buy someone’s ranch to sell it off.
I DO enjoy taking my female friends clothes shopping. It is quite pleasurable to see a woman who has taken what God has given her, and packages it to the best of her abilities. I LOVE Christmas, and clothes are like the wrapping on a Christmas present, and thus if the gift isn't wrapped nicely for you, then what is the giver telling you about the gift?
But, in actuality, when it comes right down to it, I’m just a guy.
