I am one of those people that goes nuts unless there is music playing in the background and I mean, bad nuts. Crazy nuts. My Music: Ani Difranco is honestly my favorite, mostly because her lyrics are amazing. Other favorites: Zero 7 (Everyone should own a copy of 'Simply Things'. Period), The Roots, Jem, The Shins, Res (go find the album now - 'How Do I' - get it - become obsessed like me - it's delicious), The Streets, Handsome Boy Modeling School (Look at him, he's gorgous!), The Stars (Elevator Love Letter always puts me in a good mood), Dispatch (who I've only found recently), Sonia Dada, Ricki Lee Jones, Bree Sharp (why doesn't she have a profile on this thingy, can anybody answer me that?), Joss Stone, Spam Allstars, Citizen Cope, Fuel, Damien Rice, Mos Def, Tori Amos, Bargain Music, Porishead, Thievery Corporation (because it makes me feel like I'm someplace else), Call and Response, Goldfrapp, The Postal Service, Delerium, Chicks on Speed, Angie Aparo, Bonnie Raitt, Nelly Furtado, Better than Ezra (everything they have ever done!) Poe, the Mountain Goats, Amos Lee, Zack Hexum, Damien Rice, Rusted Root *ST. GERMAIN IS FREAKIN' AWESOME* Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson is simply a god when it comes to making random sound into music), Everything But the Girl is probably what I listen to the most, Pepper (my punk rock boys!), Mice Parade, Counting Crows, Gorillaz, Roots Manuva, Steve Kimock Band (which is beautiful), Abandon Pools, Medeski Martin and Wood, Jamiroquiai (because everybody needs some disco now and then!), Ben Folds, Catch 22, Ozomalti, . . . oh my gosh, there is so much more. Thousands of cds and more space on my hard-drive that I will ever admit to. And it all changes daily. Mostly it has to show me something honest, something real.
Favorites of the Moment: Closer (the play was better and Julia Roberts ALMOST ruins it for me, but still - awesome), The Motorcycle Diaries (the first 20 mintues I saw before Rik threw a fit), and The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is just beautiful. All time fav's: Amelie, A Life Less Ordinary, American Beauty, Ammores Perros, The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge, Snatch, Chasing Amy, Kissing Jessica Stein, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Love Me If You Dare, I (heart) Huckabees, Elizabeth, Cat Ballou, 21 grams, Grosse Pointe Blank, Meet Joe Black, Overboard, Four Rooms, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Hero, anything Danny Boyle directed really. Gosh, there are more, but these just flew off the top of my head.
I'm not a T.V. person at all, don't have one that works even, but I'm completely addicted to Nip/Tuck (I have minions tape it and type up episode summaries for me) - other than that, I try to catch Jon Stewardt's "The Daily Show" and that's about it. Oh, and lately I've become horribly attached to Scrubs. It's just so cute and wonderful. Other than that, when I find myself holding this 'remote' thingy, I usually just manage to either program something off or make the screen go fuzzy. I'm not good with electronics, you see.
NOW - Tracey Kidder's "Mountains Beyond Mountains" is a must read I'm preaching to everybody about. Besides that, anything I can get my hands on and keeps my interest. Lately, it's been philosophy and political science, but that's never a good indicator for the long run. I have this bad habit of forgetting the books that I'm reading in strange places and then have to start another one so I usually am reading like six or seven at a time. Currently they are: "Trickster Makes this World" by Lewis Hyde; "The Jukebox Queen of Malta" Rinaldi; Edward Abbey's "The Brave Cowboy"; and "Tales of the Shaman's Apprentice" by Plotkin.Other favorites are: I love Laura Esquivel - her "Law of Love" is beautiful. I like Chuck Palahnuik a great deal. Orson Scott Card is a favorite, as well as Robert D. Kaplan (His 'The Coming Anarchy' is a must-read for everyone), Carl Hiaasen, Daniel Quinn, and Madeleine L'engle. I love Neil Gaiman as well - a friend gave me "Brief Lives" and I was quite moved. I love Camus. I have a particular love for Latin American Lit - Carlos Fuentes, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez being my favorites. Oh gosh, there is much much more - seriously, anything - Oliver Sacks' "Anthropologist on Mars" changed my view on life.
