FM Crew's unique sound, blends Hip Hop, R&B and Dance Hall of todays hottest music genres. Original members, Profit from Jamaica-Screechi from the Dominican Republic have been a group for 10 years and now team up with Eyez (African American) of Connecticut, who brings the R&B element to the group.
FM Crew blending Hip Hop, R&B and Dance Hall of todays hottest music genres. Profit, born Dave Smith grew up in Manchester, Jamaica. Profit, a Church lead singer and choir member, moved to the United States in the late 80s. Arriving at the Eastside projects of Stamford, Connecticut at a young age, he easily joined the string of Dance Hall DJs. His melodic voice and Church Choir background would propel him to the forefront, immediately catching the attention of co-member Screechi. Screechi, born Felix Lapots, also lived in the Eastside projects of Stamford, moving with his family from the Dominican Republic. At a young age, Screechi became an excellent Poet. His Grandmother discovered his ability to write and memorize poems. She would make him recite his written poems to her daily and at church on Sundays.Inspired by the sounds of most Reggae legends and major figures in the positive consciousness dance hall movement: Nicodemus, Brigadier Jerry, Josey Wales and Super Cat, Profit and Screech, formed FM Crew. Conscious and truthful lyrics are a cornerstone of FM Crews solid foundation. FM Crews popularity enhanced as they performed at numerous talent shows and nightclubs in New York, Connecticut and especially Torontos annual Caribana Festival.FM Crews latest addition to the group, Navone Smith aka Eyez hails from Bridgeport CT, USA. At age 3, Eyez began singing, dancing and marveling audiences at local talent shows. In July of 1986, at age five, Eyez took second place at a talent show sponsored by the Southern Regional Chapter of the Sickle Cell Association. She immediately gained publicity and recognition through the local newspaper, the Bridgeport Post. In March of 1994, now in her teens, Eyez would participate in numerous talent shows, particularly Be A Star, co-hosted by radio personalities such as Debbie Reynolds of WEBE 108FM, Roger Vann/WNHC and Marshari Brown, Producer of Amateur Night at the world famous Apollo Theater. Eyez shined her way to the final round of the show.FM Crews multicultural formation is poised for success, a blend of unique sounds benefits from British born producer Kayo. Kayo, an established dance producer is of African Ancestry. His unique beats propelled a few of his independent dance releases to the top of the Billboard Dance Charts.FM Crews debut single Girlz is poised for success; the video is already playing on several popular video shows in the U.S and recently aired on B.E.Ts (Black Entertainment Television) The Next. Mix show play is growing fast, and continues to rock nightclubs all over.
