Jazz finally made me sit up again in '86 when i heard Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" &"GiantSteps"; Miles Davis's "OnTheCorner"; MahavishnuOrchestra's "Mahavishnu"; as well as a bunch of fusion shit all the army band dudes were checking out at the DefenceForceSchoolOfMusic ('86-'87). Loved going into Melbourne on Tuesdays/Thursdays to see VirgilDonati play with LooseChange, definately one of the choppiest jazz fusion bands ever to exist. Pop/rock/synthpop/ funk/electronic/jazz and some classical filled a decade of listening, and was joined by house music in '86 when i was old enough to get into clubs. the clubs were shit in my part of the world, but i still heard the latest house from detroit/chicago, and eventually the techno & acid a couple of years later. first x in houston's club 6400 in '88 helped cement my understanding of what was going on. jammed with david koresh in late '88. . .its'a long story. travelled the world playing in the navy band for 7 years; in 1993 i had the good fortune of becoming a member of UK's killer found percussion group STOMP. from 93-95 i studied at Melbourne's VCA, a great school for opening your head to improvised musical processes. jazz, world, experimental & improv music moved me alot in these few years; a rich time. formed IMP who played at Melbourne's own Love Parade in '94 or '95. . .in '95 i went to my first outdoor DOOF, called Earthcore; I was hooked. For 8 years, from '95-'03 i was a tv music composer at Grundy TV (now Fremantle), and at night i was deeply into electronic music making. joined Decoy (http://www.myspace.com/decoypony) (now signed to Plusquam), with whom i coproduced their first 2 EPs';played 100's of gigs, including Earthcore's, GreenAnt's, and at lots of places in Melbourne city; PuntersClub,Revolver,Espy,Prince,Bar Open. . .then left them for a spell; thought my ears were getting fuckedup, then joined TheSandPebbles, (http://www.myspace.com/sandpebbles)(wunderful PsychRock troupe) with whom i played sax, keys and produced 2 great albums at my moonlab studio. this, naturally, fucked-up my ears further. i finished at grundy tv in2004, and composed the music for the TV drama SecretLifeOfUs for a year, then left Oz. Norway was home for a year, then Europe, and later Istanbul. . .which is where I'm at now. . . . .me in a nutshell
