The Music Lesson / Frederick Leighton - The rendition of vast expanses of fabric always amazes me in realism. The repition of patterns. Also, all the folds and draping of the fabric. How did anyone get anywhere carrying an entire bolt of fabric swirrling about them?! Anyhow, I love the light, shadows and texture depicted.

I think there was a film called Gothic that borrowed this work for the film's cover art. It's no wonder...just sinister looking, the mischevious goblin and it's dark mare accomplis. Wake UP girlfriend!

Bah! I had THE worst time choosing from the body of Waterhouse work. He was such a romantic idealist. Again, the wind blowing her wrap, looks so natural. I particularly enjoy the contrast between the overall hues used and the bright yellow flower in her hair. It becomes a focal point,framing her face, and a pleasing contrast in color. The other flowers just help to transition your eye into the background of dominating neutrals.
