Folk-Soul songstress Elaine Ryan weaves her pure voice into poignant, political love songs. Her thoughtful lyrics hang in the air long after the phrase is finished. Self taught in voice and guitar, the Vancouver-raised singer-songwriter was brought up to the sounds of Ireland, her country of birth. Singing as soon as she could speak, she picked up the guitar as a teen after seeing Ani Difranco perform in a tiny venue at a festival in Galway. Growing up, she absorbed and was influenced by the work of Tracy Chapman, Ben Harper and Natalie Merchant. Song-writing came as she began to draw on her diverse experiences, from working at an orphanage in Guatemala to busking her way through Switzerland and Spain. Trained as a flamenco dancer in Seville, Elaine also draws rhythmic inspiration from her love of this tradition. Elaine performs in Vancouver on a regular basis, drawing audiences of all ages. She recently recorded her first EP, “Sisters,†now available for purchase through CD Baby or on iTunes.
