***Zeit·geist
n. The spirit of the time; the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation: the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time. from Ger. Zeitgeist, lit. "spirit of the age," from Zeit "time" + Geist "spirit".
Zeitgeist is a Houston-based artists collective. This organization seeks to establish links between artists, organize and promote our own art shows and events, and generally promote a sense of unity among artists in this city.
Zeitgeist is an outgrowth of three art shows held at Helios in 2006. These shows were an ideal starting point for several artists to meet each other, see each others work, develop an informal network and inspire one another. We hope to continue this work under a more formal umbrella organization.
Your core contacts will be Vladimir Davidiuk (photographer), Julian Palacios (painter), Eli Brumbaugh (painter/illustrator) and Julia Sinelnikova (artist).
Our first meeting was held on Thursday, March 8th at the Cafe downstairs at the Museum of Fine Arts. The air was electric with ideas and energy.
Our first collective effort, ZEITGEIST 1, was at West Fest Block Party on Saturday March 24. Thanks to all who participated and helped. Shawna, Pod, Julia and Anto especially. Our youngest fan, 3 year old Skye Smith, was featured in the Houston Chronicle painting our big Zeitgeist sign.
Our second collective show, ZEITGEIST 2, launched on Friday the 13th of April at Notsouh downtown from 5pm till 5am. The event was a smash success, with incredible art and performances. The show will hang there for the rest of April.
Next up on our global domination scheme are a series of proposals for new, ever greater shows.
The Zeitgeist collective encompases these artists. Here is the list as of now with more to be added at a later date.
