Kirk Burrowes is an entertainment industry maverick.
He started via television with the American Broadcasting Company in New York City. After selling commercial time slots for various dayparts at ABC television, Burrowes then moved to Orion Motion Pictures. He worked within the marketing department in a variety of capacities from advertising to sales, promoting such films as Platoon, Married to the Mob, Silence of the Lambs, Dances with Wolves and others.
After Orion, Burrowes decided to utilize his skills and experience and became an entrepreneur. Formulating “New York Live,†a music industry promotional showcase with three other industry friends, Burrowes made an indelible splash onto the early 90’s music scene. Besides hosting an array of stars from Jay Z to Busta Rhymes, New York Live is where Burrowes first worked with a young Sean Combs. Later the pair formed the quintessential hip-hop label, Bad Boy Entertainment.
Bad Boy Entertainment boasted a host of legendary artists such as Mase, The Notorious BIG and Diddy. It was more than a label, Bad Boy was a cultural movement that defined the way a generation of youth lived. Expanding well beyond the musical horizon, Burrowes and Combs launched Justin’s, a chain of soul food restaurants, “Daddy’s House†a state of the art recording studio and Sean Jean, a cutting edge, international fashion industry success.
After Bad Boy, he ventured further into the world of entrepreneurship, Kirk formed Burrowes Entertainment to handle the various business opportunities seeking his expertise.
Burrowes working along with Combs during the early Bad Boy Production phase had already produced Mary J. Blige’s classic debut “What’s the 411†and it’s follow-up “My life.†Therefore, it was a family reunion when Mary J. Blige called upon Burrowes to handle her career in 1997. During his nearly 5 year tenure with Mary, Burrowes handled Business Management, Executive Production, Marketing, Creative Production, Touring and Branding. Within their time together they reached new plateaus and well surpassed their original goals and aspirations. Their union and various accomplishments are now industry lore and a high water mark for both of their respective careers.
Considered by many to be a cultural force, Burrowes uniquely travels through uncharted territory, thinking out of the box and creating new ideas to market, promote and sell product. These attributes undeniably strengthen his workmanship and puts him in high demand for his executive coaching programs and consultation business.
