About Me

Derrick Dalton RIP - Derrick passed away on Monday, September 29th and we are truly devastated by the loss. He was a great musician, producer and friend. Sometimes life is too cruel.
- Guardian Unlimited - Myspace of the week (June 07):-
"breezy, melodious pop music."

Reviews of 'songs from the apex'

- Leonards Lair
"Layers of indie guitars underpin the superb pop of 'Overred' and there will be few sunnier songs released this year than the jangly 'Full Sound'. 4/5."

- RTE (Irish national radio/TV)
"Those who wear their love of sweet guitar melodies like a badge of honour should find that Villa R give them good reason to stick their chests out even further... their week together in a Dublin house in August 2005 has resulted in an album that gets the right mix between nostalgia and now and offers some special moments."

- Irish Times
"Young is a heart-on-sleeve observer, capturing wry moments with a Lloyd Cole sensibility. Whether it's on familiar turf or poking around in new corners, Songs from the Apex threads a new seam in a well-worn genre. "Failed indie supergroup?" Don't think so."

- Road Records, Dublin
"a selection of mostly acoustic based mellow pop sounds falling somewhere between the go betweens and grand prix era teenage fanclub"

- Indiepages
"definitely something for everyone on here (MTQ=8/11)"

Villa R Bio

We are a group of friends who have played music together over a number of years. Members of this (loose) group have played together and apart in Irish bands like Hey Paulette , I am the Waltons , Crumb , The Sewing Room , The Deportees, Mexican Pets , Jubilee All-Stars .

Over the last few years, I (Eoin) have written a number of songs and decided last summer to try and record them. In one week in August 05, this group (the one you can see listed) all contributed to the making of this record. But without the efforts of Derrick who played on/arranged/engineered and produced the record, it could never have happened (Not even to mention that flashy solo on songs from the apex!). The result is the album called: Songs from the Apex.

4 songs from the record are up on this page and we've played one release party in Dublin and are getting some good feedback on the record.

Most szeretnék intézni egy show pesten. Eóin - Villa R.
