About Me
Laurens Kagenaar was born in 1975 in Haarlem, Holland.He played some violin In his early youth, but eventually he was more interested in electronic instruments like synthesizers, drum computers and painting.
After elementary and secondary at the Rudolf Steiner school in Haarlem from age 4 to 18 and reveiving piano and music theory lessons from teacher Tony Nahar,
he was admitted to the institute for Sonology at the The Hague royal conservatory.
Around this time he was also influenced by Hip Hop music, and the improvisational and harmonic explorations in jazz music, so he started to play in bands/and or with artists like Poodle Naked, GUTT (prizewinner hiphop Grote Prijs van Nederland 1996) Postmen and E-life, most of these projects were about blending and recycling styles. Studying at the institute for Sonoloy for six years, he graduated with an Bachelor degree in 1998 and with an Masters degree in 2000.
He was taught and influenced by Kees Tazelaar, Paul Berg, Konrad Boehmer, Richard Barrett, Clarence Barlow, Joel Ryan, Jan Boerman.
During his studies he concentrated on tape music composition and live performance.
He also studied classical theory, jazz theory and counterpoint at the conservatory.
After his studies he composed two pieces for ’Het fonds voor de scheppende toonkunst’.
Through the years he has been working for various artists, activities include composition, arranging, sound design, co-productional work, programming, live performing, consultancy.www.sonology.org
