About Me

I sold 149 copies of this album in early summer 2002, giving me 10 quid short of three months rent. The project began as an experiment with lousy recording practises, scratchy guitars over hiphop beats on a shitty little pc with a 16 quid soundcard and mixed on an old Sansui amp with speakers I found in my granny's house. Then some mad life stuff happened and a bunch of lyrics fell out of me. Most of the vocal takes are first takes, some making up the words as I was recording. I cheated every way I could, I recorded in the wrong sequence, generally leaving the drums til near last, and it seemed I edited for months. As a mate told me, "It wasn't recorded very well, you can play better, the vocals aren't great and it's produced very strangely! But it's fuckin' cool!"

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: All vocals, guitars, bass, keys, drums, programming and editing by Stuart Doyle except for Julie Doyle's backing vocals, Brian McIlvenney's drums on 'All I Know' and the stolen drum tracks from Dublin band Molotov Cocktail circa 1999 on 'My Book', 'Las Elvis' and 'Squeeze'. Several samples, loops and bits were picked up along the way. Scratching on 'Las Elvis' by Petey Kelly. Words and music by Stu but some ideas were used in Stu's previous bands; 'Las Elvis' is based on an idea by Robert McKenna, the riff for 'Comin Round' is taken from Chillum song 'Inside The Web', 'All I Know' and 'Shine On Down' are musically based on Bender songs. Recorded, mixed and mastered in perhaps a somewhat dodgy fashion by Stu from 1999-2002.
Influences: JJ Cale, Ali Farke Toure, Stone Roses, Hendrix, Nick Cave, Chilis, Neil Young, Dre, Beasties, Tribe Called Quest, PJ Harvey.
Sounds Like: a cardboard box
