Many of my pieces are inspired by the silhouettes of animals; vultures, bats, beetles, anything with claws, scales or tentacles. The resemblance may not be obvious, but it is present in the curves and edges of the patterns. I am hopelessly addicted to constructing roses. The thorns are curved horseshoe nails and the stems are often mummified in strips of hologram vinyl, rubber, wire, and videotape. I name the petals after shaping them when I discover they actually look like something, but it is never planned.
My designs are made in various materials such as butyl rubber, garment leather and tooling leather. I use brand new or good quality recycled inner tubes. I'm using leather more now because I can paint it with a fantastic selection of acrylics, metallic purple is just too much to resist.
