Life's a beach.

About Me

Born in the Big Apple. Grew up on a small farm in upstate NY. College an hour and a half from home at Ithaca College. Grad school at Colorado State University. Postdoc at UCSD. Good job as a chemist at General Electric's Global Research Center back in upstate NY. AND THEN... I quit it all and moved back to San Diego to be a beach bum. Now I surf, play volleyball, and gererally spend as much time on the beach as possible. One thing I like about the beach is that it is an easy place to meet people who share my love of the outdoors and like the good life here in SoCal. Through one thing and another I now work for GE again, but here in my beloved SoCal.

My Interests

Surfing, volleyball, anything beach.

I'd like to meet:

anyone who likes the beach... is anyone sensing a theme, here?

Music:

"Rock and Roll, baby. Rock and Roll." Old school: Rush, Ozzy, Van Halen, Journey. Not so old but not so new: Blind Melon, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots. New stuff: Tool, System of a Down.

Movies:

Action/Drama: Highlander, Shawshank Redemption, True Lies, Lord of the Rings, Fight Club. Chick Flicks: 50 First Dates, Me Myself and Irene (is that really a chick flick?). Comedies: the usual suspects (no, not the movie): anything by Harold Ramis, Monty Python, Fish Called Wanda, Princess Bride, 40 Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Old School.

Television:

Dexter, the greatest television I have ever witnessed. It has ruined me for other television.

Books:

Catch 22, The Amber Series, Lord of the Rings, Slaughterhouse Five, Memoirs of a Geisha, Tapping the Source, In Search of Captain Zero

Heroes:

Anybody who stands up for the little guy: Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Abe Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony.

My Blog

Another big day

If my memory serves (I don't have my surf journal handy), for the 10 days before today, the surf has been what could only be described as non-existent.  That does not mean I did not get in the wa...

11/9/06 First solid west swell of the fall

Yesterday was a rough day at work.  This required immediate attention:  therapy at a local watering whole.  A quick phone call to my buddy, E, and we ended up at a place called JT's (I ...
