About Me

Seaoned songwriter and performer, BC, uses his songwriting to convey personal emotions and as an outlet for creative thinking. The thoughtful, gritty & emotional lyrics tug at the heartstring of interpersonal relationships. .. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL ARTICLE Friday, June 23, 2006 ................................."Musician lets his emotions guide him "By JOHN BARRY..............................Maybe it was the uncle who plays harmonica or his father who played guitar and piano for Jackson Browne during the 1970s.Working on and off as a DJ at WPDH (101.5 FM) for eight years might have left the biggest footprint on Bob Cahill of Wappingers Falls. But it could have even been the time he worked the sound board for a call-in show on gardening on WEOK (1390 AM).Whatever it was, something along the line stoked in Cahill a love for performing, music and an audience."Anything that makes me feel good, anything that touches my emotions," he said about the types of music he likes. "Anything in any particular type of music that touches my emotions. I love jazz. I love funk. I definitely love rock 'n' roll. There is no doubt about that."Cahill tonight will likely be flexing all of his musical muscle when he performs at The Chance in Poughkeepsie with his band, Weathered Soul. This ensemble has a pretty good gig, performing on a bill that includes Mountain featuring Leslie West as headliner along with the bands Fallen Apart and Callous.Cahill described Weathered Soul's sound as "infectious grooves with a driving beat."Pink Floyd to Pearl JamThe members of this sextet are from Dutchess and Ulster counties and play originals along with material by Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, Maroon 5 and Pearl Jam."We play whatever we feel," said Cahill, who plays rhythm guitar, saxophone, harmonica and sings. But the noise he makes reverberates far beyond the walls of Poughkeepsie's most famous nightclub.Cahill is a performing arts major at Dutchess Community College, where he plays in the Dutchess Jazz Combo and studies music theory, oral skills and composition. He hopes to take his infatuation with the stage lights all the way to the Great White Way, where he can continue to indulge his love of performing for an audience."Just the response from the crowd — performing in front of people is my love, being on the stage in any aspect, whether it's jazz, acting, singing with the band," he said.Production backgroundAs if his resume isn't diverse enough, let's not overlook the fact that Cahill graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, where he learned radio and television production. When he is not making music or working an audience, Cahill enjoys hiking, particularly at Breakneck Ridge in Cold Spring, Putnam County. But when he talks about hiking, his words could easily apply to his musical mission, one that he hopes will land him on Broadway. When discussing hiking, he talks about "going places" and how "getting up on the heights is awesome."Admission for tonight's show at The Chance is $20. Doors open at 8:30. For information, call 845-471-1966 or visit http://www.thechancetheater.com/ or www.myspace.com/weatheredsoulny. You can also e-mail Cahill at [email protected] W. Certainly you will enjoy the eclectic mix of music BC encompasses into his original songwriting. Many songs are co-written with other songwriters, guitarists, bassists & drummers. Intentions are to feature the acoustic versions of songs recorded in studio or live. The raw feel of some of the recordings helps to retain the emotion and capture the mood of any given track. Open your mind and enjoy!!
