About Me

O'siyo (hi) and wado (thank you) for visiting my profile!
Who is Annaleigh?
I am an Indian and a Chicana - My father was Tennesee Cherokee/Alabama Chickasaw, and my mother is of Mexican descent. I have a rich heritage.
I am a Christian - I belong to a Pentecostalish church. I am not the kind of girl you except to see in a born-again Holy Ghost church, but my spirituality gives me life. I do not preach, I only share when invited. As Dave Mustaine says, spirituality is for those who've been to hell and back, and religion is for those who are still afraid to go there.
I am a college student - I am studying at Bakersfield College majoring in Sociology & Anthropology, and should qualify for a History & Chicano Studies degree by the time I graduate. I plan to transfer to CSU Bakersfield and persue my Bachelors in Sociology w/ a concentration in Ethnic Studies and a minor in Women's Studies. I want to eventually become a university professor and teach/research/write about women of color issues.
I am an artist I suppose you could say - I am a published poet; I enjoy photography; I dabble in painting, and I grew up doing community and school theater. I have the mood swings & manic depressive diagnosis of an artiste, too! *rolls eyes* LOL
I am an activist - For the last 6 years I have participated in anti-abuse/rape activism. I have maintained a survivor site (child sexual abuse survivor here, among other things) and done whatever else I can. I most recently lent my voice and story to the audio documentary Voices of Strength . I am a rock n' roll nerd & ghetto intellectual - I read incessantly, I watch the news, etc. I am such a nerd that if you look at my profile right now as I am writing this, shaawano posted a comment that he was sending me a CD of a college professor's lecture... FOR FUN. I also have a grudge that in high school when I wanted to see the 90's version of Romeo & Juliet, our local theater showed nothing but freaking Space Jam the entire time. I am a metalhead - Best genre of music ever! I am the daughter and granddaughter of child migrant farm workers - There is much honor in farm work in my opinion, but I listen to my mother describe picking potatoes and I know for certain it's a job I don't want. The last time I saw my grandfather alive, just before beginning my first semester of college, he admonished me to study hard. Consquently I take nothing about my education for granted! And uh huh, I support the UFW without apology!
I am training soon to be a social worker - I know it won't be an easy job, but it's a worthy one I think. I'd like to help families that are where my family used to be.
Anything else you desire to know, just ask!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

All kinds of people. Anyone who is interesting. As for notable people, there are a bunch. Dolores Huerta so I could thank her for being an extraordinary leader and person. Dave Mustaine (The General, The Grand Poobah of Thrash Metal, etc.) of Megadeth, as he is actually really sweet and a gentleman despite his reputation for being as friendly as a piranha. James Hetfield, Tori Amos, Penelope Spheeris, etc. also.

My Blog
