A hymn for her was intially just that...a one time project---a hymn for her--for her-for me-mournfully expressing the woes of a hard situation...at least that was the plan. The intent, emotion and objective has always been pure, but the structure of the sound has changed over the years. Even within the first cd the sound was far darker and more minimal than i had initally set out to obtain. but it all works within time...it's how we get to places....
the sound summed up nicely by the title of the second full length "Noir Ambiant"
the 3rd full length "amaranthine" and the 4th "beautiful death" reached completion at about the same moment. ...some sort of incestuous union of complicated material that spanned a period of nearly 5 years.
Both albums saw A HYMN FOR HER moving in a new and different direction. For the most part, the drone and heavy bass distortions of the isolationist first 2 cds were gone...though traces remained, a more musical notion was rising to the surface-most noticably on 'beautiful death'.
Now in 2003, a hymn for her is further progressing. Taking all the memories of past efforts and incorporating them into yet new techniques and sounds, the 5th full length "Videre in Somis" came at the end of 2003. The album pushed on in a similar vein as beautiful death did, this time notably adding the use of more guitar, percussion and vocals.
"...When God Stopped Caring" was a hymn for her's release of 2004...one huge monolith of a track, much more focused on drone and atmosphere than on any concept of a 'song'. black ambient to be sure, dark beastly creature of a child... ~~~Lyndi found it soothing, she loved it and often put it on as she went to sleep...a more ringing endorsement there is not~~~
2005 :: new tracks are being worked on slowly, but there is some progress being made, also run off is my version of a perfect circle's 'the hollow' (just for her) as well as a version of "overstimulation" from Me, Myself & I's overstimulation EP.
2006 :: dj non (another of my alias') has been 'spinnin' alot in 2005/06 and finally came about with an ambient one. around 30 tracks, plenty of which is rare, unreleased, remixed, etc...this should almost be the secret a hymn for her album... so you see...i thought it was worth mentioning. (contact me if you want a copy, this won't be 'released') also of significant note is the most...intense and....agonized over a hymn for her album yet, "THE MARRIAGE OF BEAUTY & BLOOD"...each track taking things to an entirely different level than any of my other 'ahfh' work....musically and conceptually. This music comes from such an intense place....i hope some of you can hear this place...or feel it inside. this all being said, i can't rush anything or throw out ideas about when this slightly neoclassically tinged ambient album will be completed. but i swear to you all, this one...it is my bloody writhing heart. that taste of salt on your tongue is to be expected....this is my blood, the brine of my flesh, the crystals we share...
