We are from left to right as you look at the main photo Hayley, Ben & Ruth. We make up the UK ambassadors for climate change.
This is the first year for the climate change college, a unique idea thought up by the clever people at Ben & Jerry's, the WWF and the polar explorer Marc Cornelissen. Its aims are to educate normal young people on the science, the politics and the campaign strategies behind climate change so that we can then produce a successful campaign of our own. for more details check out www.climatechangecollege.org We were selected as the 3 UK finalists, along with 3 Dutch ambassadors in November 2005, and since then we've been on a steep learning curve, we've had e-learning modules, lectures from many amazing people in London ( The sustainable development commission, The Rocky Mountain Institute, WWF, Scott Polar Institute to name but a few) We returned from another steep learning curve on Saturday 13th May. We had spent just over two weeks in the Arctic! This amazing opportunity gave us the first hand experience of a changing climate, we had the chance to talk with the local Inuit people about how they have seen their surroundings change. We met with the Chair of the Greenlandic Inuit Circumpolar Conference. We then spent an entire week camping on the Ice Cap, it was -25, we were eating rehydrated packets of food, digging massive holes in the snow, and lets just say, the toiet facilities were basic!? We were digging our massive snow pit as part of A European Space Agency project which aims to spend the next couple of years mapping ice layer thickness. The aim is to give them known, measured, accurate data on the thickness of the snow layers which can then be used to calibrate and validate a sattelite called cryosat due to be launched in 2009. Cryosat will give the most accurate picture yet of exactly how the sea and land ice is changing. Allowing them to make more accurate predictions on melting and its link with climate change.Sign our petition- let tony blair know that we need him to take action! it takes about a minute and will make a huge difference if every one takes time out of their busy lives to support the campaign!www.climatechangecollege.org/hayleyYour results:
