About Me

When I was just a toddler banging on pots and pans with plastic serving spoons my dad started calling me "Helmet"(because I was so hard headed), now that's what everyone calls me. Currently I am the full time drummer for Big River (classic country cover band), Station 313 (pop-rock original/cover foursome), The Moonlighters (an R&B original/cover band), and Funk Seminary (a Motown/80's pop/dance band). Needless to say my schedule tends to stay somewhat INSANE... My musical influence starts with classic rockers like The Eagles, Styx, REO Speedwagon, The Little River Band, Bob Seger, Journey and a host of other arena rock legends, then moves on to everything from Motown to Bakersfield and all stops in between. My style of playing is a combination of the session aces that inspire me like Chad Cromwell, Greg Morrow, Keith Carlock, Simon Phillips, Todd Sucherman, and Charlie Allen Martin of the famed Silver Bullet Band just to name a few.I have had the priviledge of meeting some of my idols in the music business as you can see in some of the photos on this website and appreciate their time and wisdom they have so willingly shared. I currently study with Jim Riley (Drummer/Music Director for Rascal Flatts) in Nashville as often as our schedules permit. When my bands are not booked I work as a drummer for hire. I do sessions in the Central KY area and sign on to play for other artists when my schedule permits. I ultimately want to get into the Nashville scene, I make frequent trips ot Music City just to network and lay the foundation for the move there after high school. As for gear, I have been playing Yamaha drums (Maple Custom Absolute)for the past 5 years but just switched to DW (Broken Glass Finish Ply Maple) and they are Amazing (Stay tuned for pics of the new kit), Zildjian cymbals (big A-Custom fan for the pronounced clarity they provide live, although, I use more K's in the studio), DW 9000 series hat, pedals, and hardware, all Remo heads, and Vater (Fusion) sticks. My love for making music of any style exceeds any desire for the spotlight or fame. I guess I am just a music junkie. I also play guitar and bass but drums are currently my only means of income. Music pretty much encompasses my whole existence. That about covers it, but if you have other questions feel free to ask. Thanks for stopping by.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'd most like to meet Don Henley, because I would love to hear what it was like in Southern CA in the early 70's and if the songwriters and players like JD Souther, Jackson Browne, Glenn Frey, and Mr. Henley himself realized the impact the music they were making would have on modern music and how it would trully be timeless art. I would also like to meet Simon Phillips because after seeing him live, I see he really is one of the best drummers in the world. TOTO, What a live show.....In what I call the "Summer of Drummers" I saw TOTO on July 4th and Steely Dan on August 27th. Witnessing that level of musicianship will either inspire you, or...make you want to go home and pile your drums up and burn them, HAHA.
