FOOTBALL (not soccer- I have nothing against America or Americanisms but FOOTBALL came before American football, so tough shit)- I love the "Beautiful Game" with a passion. It is the only thing that I would do above all else apart from playing music. I support Norwich City (boyhood club) and Celtic (first football team I ever came across), and have a considerable collection of memorabilia for either club (e.g. lots of football SHIRTS, not jerseys). Speaking on the subject of shirts, I also have two Wolverhampton Wanderers shirts and a Sparta Praha (Sparta Prague for those of you who don't do Eastern European) shirt, purely because I am a football fan aswell as a "Canary Bhoy", as I have coined myself, and (assuming the price is acceptable) I would buy other football shirts if the chance arose (apart from Ipswich (Scum) and Rangers (Huns) shirts.
--------
Rugby- brilliant game, although I haven't played it for a long time :( because Mr. Dwight (Old Buck. PE teacher and Watford fan ;( )was obsessed with cricket and football, which in itself was not a bad thing, but meant that the only rugby i can get is that which is televised on the BBC. I don't have SKY- my parents are retro where technology is concerned, although they have improved over the years.
--------
Cricket- the quintissential British game, and a brilliant one at that. Cricket heroes include Geoff Boycott, Ramiz Raja, Ravi Bopara, Monty Panesar, Inzamam Ul-Haq and Sajid Mahmood amongst others. Like cricket itself, I would take too long to explain my reasons for loving it so!
--------
Sleeping (for prolonged periods);
--------
Having a laugh (which ain't hard because I'm a freak and have the capacity to make people laugh AT me rather than WITH me);
--------
Music such as the stuff I happen to like.
--------
If anyone thinks that I've forgotten anything, please tell me.
My MSN is [email protected], but unless you're gonna actually talk to me don't bother adding me 'cause I'm sick to fucking death of spending my whole life trying to strike up conversation and not getting any kinda reply or if I know you. So yeah, feel free, but take note.
--------
This is the one man I'd definitely want to meet- Maciej Zurawski; some of his best goals for all you lovers of the "Beautiful Game" to savour...
My favourite band by some considerable margin is U2, and because I've spent a lot of my life having to explain just exactly WHY I like to listen to them, here are my reasons for the world at large to read should they wish to know;
1) their music is written because they want to actually do something and help the world which is good enough for me;
2) because they make music that tries to say something and strikes a chord with me (pun not intended) and finally;
3) their music is actually MUSICAL- unlike the shit most people listen to nowadays, e.g. modern rubbish such as techno, garage, drum and bass, disco, rap...
--------
I also like (in no particular order) RUNRIG, Lenny Kravitz, BLOC PARTY, Feeder, The Cult, CHRIS REA, New Order, MUSE, Lighthouse Family, Def Leppard, Head Automatica, gloSoul, Snow Patrol, Black Sabbath, 7 Seconds of Love, Primal Scream, Maddy Prior, The Proclaimers, any random Bangra music, Iron Maiden, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Maroon 5, the Dubliners, Duran Duran, Big Country, a-Ha, Bon Jovi, Sting and The Police, THE STONE ROSES, Bryan Adams, T-Rex, Seth Lakeman, Toto, Daft Punk, The Offpsring amongst others- REAL music, basically... get me?
--------
Oh yeah, I HATE the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, Green Day (who doesn't hate them now- if "The Saints are Coming" had been left for U2 to write and Green Day had been kicked off the planet then yeah it would have been ok. Life, don't talk to me about life) Korn, Slipknot and the Arctic Monkeys with a passion (among many others), whilst I'm not going to comment on stuff like Emo, Goth, Grundge/ Grunge (however you want to spell it) etc. because I don't listen to it and therefore I'm not going to pass judgement, but the likelihood is that I won't like it because they're the types of music that I've never felt compelled to listen to.
--------
Basically, I have a wide albeit slightly particular taste in music (a) meaning that it has to be musical and b) I really DO have a wide taste- I'm not just saying it to sound intellectual), e.g. Rock- be that classic, alternative, modern, pure, heavy, whatever sub-genre; Folk music, be it the Dubliners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Seth Lakeman or more Folk Rock like Runrig; Metal; some heavy Goth-ness of the Marilyn Manson ilk; Blues'n'Rhythm like Chris Rea; stuff that borders to the SLIGHTEST DEGREE on R&B like Lighthouse Family; some Classical like Beethoven, Karl Jenkins; Pop music, like a-Ha and ABBA- I could go on, but I think I've "put you in the picture, and I've shown you what I mean" (if you can guess the band of whom their lyrics I have adapted to sound profound, I will be impressed)
Don't really watch any on a regular basis, i.e. I don't go to the cinema very often, if ever to be fair. Here are a list of my favourite films though, just to give you an idea;
V for Vendetta
--------
Sunshine
--------
Rules of Engagement
--------
Eurotrip
--------
All six Star Wars films
--------
Lord of the Rings- Return of the King
--------
Jurassic Park (the first one)
--------
The Hunt for Red October
--------
The Lion King
--------
The Long Way Round
--------
It's not a film as such, but I came across it recently and just felt it to be so powerful- it sends the kinda message I want to send to the world, and is backed by one of my favourite songs by Lighthouse Family, "Free".
--------
Match of the Day (preferably with Adrian Chiles because he's a good ol' boy from the Black Country); any fuBball game that's on terrestrial TV (because I don't have SKY but do want Setanta Sports so I can watch more than just Celtic highlights on Sky Sports News and the Celtic website itself; QI because it's awesome; FATHER TED!; THE MIGHTY BOOSH!; sometimes Top Gear, not much else (can't forget the 'Friday Night Project' though ;)...
--------
And Graham Norton's Bigger Picture is good for a laugh). Don't get me started on what I think about Big Brother or Lost. That kind of shit is a waste of money, time and sanity.
--------
Eddie Izzard, Ross Noble, Billy Connolly are just a few of the comedians that I love watching.
--------
The Mighty Boosh, live at Brixton. As a rule I don't put videos on here because it slows everything down but for this I make an exception because it's fucking hilarious and is the greatest moment in comedy.
Fact.
are made of paper. Haha, ain't I funny? No, didn't think so. I read most- fiction, philosophy, biographies etc. the only books I've read in the past year are "Miracle in the Andies" by Nando Parrado (and I recommend it highly), Bill Bryson books and Terry Pratchett novels, whilst English Lit. A-Level does have its bonuses in that I've been given a decent excuse to read Dracula and it's superlatively longwinded but once it gets going is a pretty decent read.
Maciej Zurawski (Poland and Celtic striker- my footballing hero!);
--------
Malcolm Jones, Runrig guitarist, absolute genius;
--------
Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jnr., Adam Clayton, i.e. U2;
--------
Steve Lukather, awesome guitarist for Toto;
