Lukas
Devita is publicist/writer on music and philosophy (or sometimes foolosophy) of culture for the Lithuanian Writer's Union weekly "Literature and Art"
(orig.: Literatura
ir Menas )
- the oldest newspaper on art and culture in the country.
In
about last three years Lukas helped to introduce British and American
psychedelia, underground music and art to the youth pages in the form of articles and translations.
Also he is singer/songwriter usually composing in English language.
Since 1989 Lukas took the liberal course in music studies joining the eccentric group Dinda Polimantica which was one of the first Lithuanian bands to declare playing psychedelic rock. Afterwards, with the bunch of original songs and covers Lukas started to perform solo and with accompanying musicians, but almost instantly he fell to the category of experimental music due to unusual songs, English language, and combination of acoustic songs
with separate electronic/ experimental instrumentals in his shows.
Some cult festivals of avantgarde
music were attended by Lukas Devita playing his own material and jamming with the prominent musicians of experimental underground. As guitar player he was also invited to perform the piece for seven musicians, Karlheinz
Stockhausen's Aus
den 7 Tagen
premier in Kaunas.
Lukas refers to
himself more as a fan than musician and love for English lyrics
through singing enabled him to discover the realms of psychedelic
folk or experimental punk and everything in between. Finally leading
him to this site to became spaced out. (Which don't mean any drugs, by the way)
Years
ago Lukas was also trying to look for the interesting
relations abroad one of which was international Donovan Cover Tape
Project (later canceled ) to where some songs were contributed.
All this would be not full
without mentioning that Lukas Devita is one of the Lithuania's
researchers of UFO phenomena and cosmic mysteries who looks more from the spiritual background. The investigative Lithuanian web page was initiated and many articles were writen on the subject. One could guess how much of this reflects in song lyrics but Lukas claims that his interests in spiritual phenomenas had increased his musical abilities.
The instrumental album
ASTRALIA with electronic, acoustic and video material was completed and credited to 'devita' as a group in only one member (exept for video work). More about all this is written in special blog section above. Music videos that you could see right here attended some festivals of alternative arts in
Lithuania and abroad.
Another experimental instrumental album
LIBRARY TAPES:SKETCHES FOR THE SYNTH SOUND FESTIVAL ON MARS
was remixed and completed. All it's tracks are performed exclusively on Polyvox synthesiser (Soviet instrument, produced around 1985 in military factories).
Below you can visit the folk music page with more (downloadable) demo recordings of the songs, intended for the album STORY GOES ROUND (working title). Some songs, still demo versions, appered on Song Planet portal and 'Mystery Man' made it into Top 25 Radio Plays by DJ Sue. Two more songs 'Homeless Generation' and 'Two Souls' were also played by DJ Sue in her show "Eclectica".
Another American portal 'Your Psychedelic Tunes' was kind to include live acoustic version of 'Love Glider' on it's player. Yet most exciting and fertile communication presented to be with the Norwegian group Sleepyard.
