My name is Alex AKA Sapient, I've been doing this music for approximately 11 years. Sapient was short for street sapience - street smarts, solely for the fact i wasn't a knuckle head and i was usually always on point, always the sober one with a extra eye open, I eventually just shortened it to Sapient. I was born and raised in Schenectady New York 518! This place has been one of the biggest influences with life let alone music. Most people from around here all they can do is bash Schenectady about how shitty it is, unfortunately i have to agree, this place sucks, but its home and always will be.
I started spitting when i was young about 12 years old, i started out battling heads online, i figured it was a excellent way to practice writing, and it allowed lots of criticism, which is always appreciated :) I grew to love that part of this music, the competition. I would be at parties battling heads and just spitting with only one objective, to shut down anyone in the cypha. I was mostly known as the kid who could freestyle his ass off, about anything whenever where ever, it wasn't until recently i decided i needed to really start focusing on getting my ideas down on paper and get in the booth. I practiced relentlessly for about 3 years perfecting my style and how i want to sound on beats. After this "training process" I dropped my first mixtape, The 518 Chronicles Vol.1 in 2009, with help and support from some of the illest artist around. Emcee Graffiti and Ritz Da Unsound mind. Together we form the Iron Bar Collective! Also shouts to J-pop who was also on that tape, and shouts to Gen and T Da Terrorist for some dope ass beats. Basically, i love music in every shape and form, and i've earned the respect that i have been given.
