Band Members:Some may call him a child of the ghetto, product of his environment or victim of circumstance. In fact, he may be all three but these are the things that keep Tayon focused on the music. Instead of labels, there should be questions asking who is Tayon? The answer is not complicated, but nonetheless interesting. Tayon is a native of Buffalo, NY. Home to Buffalo wings, the Buffalo Bills and the late Rick James, Tayon, watching his three brothers, grew up singing. There were some doubts, on his part, whether or not he could really sing. Those doubts were dismissed on multiple occasions when his brothers asked Tayon to sing for their girlfriends. There was one day in particular that Tayon recalls vividly. “My oldest brother told me to go into the bathroom, close the door and sing to the top of my lungs. He assured me that this would help me conquer my fear of singing in public – and it didn’t! Matter of fact, he left me in the bathroom for about an hour while he went to his girlfriend’s house. What it did teach me was to never sing for anyone’s satisfaction but my own.” There was a time when Tayon accepted the label, “child of the ghetto.” It was during this period when Tayon would be involved in gang activity and violence. It was in the rough streets of Buffalo that Tayon realized that the deeper he went in the streets, the shorter his life would be. Reminiscent of that period of his life, Tayon recalls, “I watched one of my closest friends get shot in the head at point blank range.” He quickly shifted his focus to his first love, music. Growing up, Tayon was exposed to a variety of music, from the Temptations to Boy II Men. One artist that really stuck out was Brian McKnight. Tayon even crafted his sound around this music icon. “At that time, no matter where I was performing, I always had Brian McKnight’s song, ‘One Last Cry’ ready to perform.” As a teenager, Tayon sung in many male groups, but it wasn’t until recent that he began to realize that music was his sole purpose. So Tayon paired up with his brother, songwriter Raynardo “Faced” Shedrick Jr. and producer Anthony “T-Man” Huff to make his purpose a reality. While performing at many different local venues such as, Juneteenth, Tayon is currently in the process of finishing his first album entitled, “The Awakening.” He’s also sharing his gift on the theatrical scene. Starting September 19th 2008, Tayon can be seen at Ujima Theater, in Oscar Brown Jr.’s play, “In de Beginnin”, which is directed by Lorna C. Hill. Amidst rehearsals and finishing his album, Tayon also performed for Kim Burse of 311 Music Group, who has been the creative director Destiny Child and Beyoncé...
