About Me

I started playing the cello when I was 8. It didn't take long to figure out that playing funny noises and grooves was a lot more fun than scales and tired old traditions. Still, I studied all that classical hoo-ha, but my heart was somewhere else. –––––––Now I spend half the time playing an acoustic cello and three quarters of the time playing an electric cello with loops and delays and other funny gizmos. I spend the rest of my time wondering where all the time goes.–––––––I play solo gigs and do live silent movie soundtracks, play in 2 bands: Caravan Gogh and the Portland Cello Project. I've made 14 CDs and NPR uses my music now and then. One of my tunes, Japanese, was used on Car Talk and on Weeds. I guess it's my big hit. One of these days Gideon Freudmann will become a household name - like spatula, or egg spoon.–––––––I used to live in the woods in western Massachusetts, but now I live in Portland, Oregon. There are more parking spaces here, but most of them are taken. I ride my bike as much as possible, but, alas, it's hard to carry and cello and an amp on a bike. –––––––www.cellobop.com
