Hayley:
I got into writing fanzines when I was 15 and I love the freedom of being able to write exactly what you think and feel. I have so far had the chance to interview some of my favourite bands including The Sex Pistols and The Buzzcocks. I am currently really loving the New York Antifolk thing and lots of guitary lyrics music. Always on the look out for new music to review and new people to meet.
My favorite bands are: Pulp, Modern Lovers, The Clash, Kimya Dawson, Evan Dando, Moldy Peaches,The Damned, The Smiths, The Scales, Devo, Morrissey, Mountain Goats,The Sex Pistols, x Ray Spex, The Stray Cats, Kraftwerk,The Rakes, Dead Blonde Girlfriend, Jonathan Richman....oh too many to list.
My pet hates are: Fergal Sharkey, Phoneys, Students (studenty students), being overtly anything ie: zany, craaaazy, people who think that the words 'spoon', 'cheese' and 'monkey' are hilarious and make them sound interesting. Now i sound like a mean person...
Elliot:
My name is Elliot and I have been working with Hayley to produce Cheap Shot since the end of ’05 and absolutely love it. I’m sure you’ll agree that music is one of the most important things in life and a world without it would frankly feel empty. At the ripe old age of thirty I’ve spent the past fifteen years completely wrapped up in music and started off in a band called “The Pecadilloesâ€. After signing up with EMI and A&M in the mid nineties we produced two albums and played all over the country and eventually ended up headlining not only at the Astoria in London but on the Guardian stage at the Reading festival. This by far the most exciting thing I have ever done and would advise anyone that can bang out a tune to have a go at starting their own band. After six amazing years the band finally split up due to an array of circumstances and co-operate shenanigans and it was time for us all to move .. spending a few years travelling and wandering what the hell to do next, I decided that music played far to bigger part in my life for me to ignore it so I decided to go to university and learn how to write. If I couldn’t be in a band then I wanted to write about them.
Growing up in the nineties was a fantastic time for music and my favourite bands were and still are, Janes Addiction, The Flaming Lips, The Verve and not forgetting those Boston Pumpkins but my record collection is never ending as I love all great music no matter what the genre.
Anyway that’s enough about me we want to know about you! What do you think of the web-site or are you in a band or do you just want to tell us about a great band that you think we should know about. Whatever the reason please please please let us now as we love hearing from all of you, and don’t forget to tell the world about Cheap Shot.
