RIP Killing Fantasy!
The good ship Killing Fantasy was conceived on a hazy night in September 2003 at the Retro Bar in Manchester. On hearing that it was the last night of the amazing Riot Grrrl club, X-Offender, Captains Vic and Beck Conway knew something had to be done! They babbled drunkenly at X-Offender DJ and general good guy Nick Smith and he agreed to jump aboard, nobly booking the club that very night and promising to teach his two damsels in distress how to DJ. They decided their club would draw attention to the music they liked to dance to in their bedrooms particularly that produced by female musicians and they also vowed to inject a little vintage glamour into the otherwise dirty indie scene. The three named their disco after a favourite Kenickie song and opened their doors for the first time in November 2003. Since then, Killing Fantasy encouraged bad behaviour, social dancing and fancy dresses on the last Thursday of every month at the bar in which it was first conceived. However, no month was the same and there were frequent themes such as Doctors and Nurses, At Sea and a Prom Night to keep people rummaging in their wardrobes! During its 3 and a half year run, Killing Fantasy entertained zombie pop bands, burlesque troupes and some amazing guest DJs. We'll miss Killing Fantasy and all who sailed in her!
